external hard drive?

hey,
I have a seagate 200gig external hard drive vurses 64 gig left in my computer....i have over 700 cdgs and haven't imported them onto my computer yet.. Should I import them all on to my external hard drive to give me extra room or should I put them all on my computer? Which way will it run better??
If anyone has any comments please share?? Thanks

Re: external hard drive?

if you have a laptop, i would put all your kma's on the external. you can rebuild your database and everything will work fine.

always make a back up of your kma's !!!

Re: external hard drive?

i'm not using a laptop i'm using a shuttle that way it won't get hot so it won't sound like its skipping when i play a song! Why would you have to make a back up of all your songs if you already have it on an external??

Well, things crash, and you want to re-import all 700 back in?

As for the shuttle vs laptop thing, I've been using a laptop and have had no difference between it and a desktop/shuttle... Even with heat...

Re: external hard drive?

well how would I make a back up of all my kma files if I already put them to the external and not on the computer harddrive? See I'm not good at this computor thing!! No problems with laptop huh?? See I tried to dj with my laptop having all my songs on an external hard drive but I didn't have usb 2.0 but when I would dj it would run for maybe for 15 min. to a half hour and then start skipping like I had a scratched cd......! (By the way) My laptop was a brand new compaq paserio 60 gig hard drive and had Pentium 3 or 4 (can't remeber) 2.8 gig processor! Well I figured if it was going to do that with just regular music it would probably do it when I run my karaoke shows!! A lot of people were telling me that laptop get realy hot and will start acting funny!! I would of bought mtu's laptop but there too much money....!! But now I have a shuttle and works great!!

Re: external hard drive?

i would buy and add to your shuttle a second internal hard drive and store all my kma's on that.

all you have to do is drag and drop the kma's to a different hard drive. when you import new songs, dont forget to back them up also.

this way if your hard drive crashes, all you have to do is buy a new hard drive, put windows on it and drag your kma's from your back up hard drive to your new hard drive then rebuild your database. now you dont have to re-import all those cd-g's again.

hope this helps

ps:adding an extra internal hard drive is not that difficult.
