Re: Great Program, But

There are many things this could be... HAL stands for Hardware Abstraction Layer, and is basically what MS_DOS was for Windows 3.1 and Windows 95,98, it's what allows Windows to talk to your hardware.

Do a google search on hal.dll, you should get many results as to what the problem may be...
try:

Hope this helps,

Re: Great Program, But

Meesterham,
There is no way that any of our programs could damage this file, that I am aware of. We don't modify any files already on your computer and really don't add many either.

The only files that are added to the System32 directory are wnaspint.dll, thats it. There are a few VB files that are added to a directory, but thats it except for the files that are installed into the C:\Program Files\Micro Technology Unlimited\Hoster directory. Other than that, these are the only files installed by Hoster.

Re: Great Program, But

Bryan, Thanks For Your Post
Maybe I Should Have Rephrase My Post. I Wasn't Saying That Mtu Would Do Anything To Corrupt Hal.dll File. I Was Saying That After Installing The Hoster Program Is When I Have My Problem. I Just Thought That Maybe There Was Something On My Computer Was Conflicting With The Hoster. I Have Never Had This Problem Before With Any Of Your Programs. I Am Going To Reinstall My Xp Pro Windows Again And Not Install Hoster Right Now. The Problem Might In The Computer Itself. I Will Give It Time To See If This Happens Again. This Is A New Unit That I Might Not Have Set Up Correctly. I Built This Computer Myself.
Flipeoke,
Thanks For You Post. I Tried What You Reccomended, But Still No Results. I Will Stay In Contact With The Forum And Maybe Someone Will Will Have Some Ideas Of What I Am Doing Wrong Or What The Problem Is, But I Must Go On.i Am Really Getting Behind.
Thanks
Have A Wonderful Day

Re: Great Program, But

Not with Hoster, but, I have had a HAL.DLL problem before.

I, like you, build my own Computers.

I, too, tried everything, which included reinstalling the operating system...several times, researching the HAL.DLL problem via the Internet, changing the Memory, and changing the Video Card. If you ask me, I think the BIOS got hosed, but I had no way to verify that.

Strange thing about the HAL.DLL problem, it didn't manifest itself all at once. Many times, the Computer would Boot to Windows OK and, likewise, would Lockup, just as many times, during Boot, in which, the problem would go away upon Power Down and UP. Then, one day, the Computer wouldn't Boot any further than the HAL.DLL problem.

I state this because you stated that you never got the HAL.DLL malfunction until you Installed Hoster. If your Computer emulates mine, the HAL.DLL problem will eventually keep your Computer form Booting to Windows, no matter what Programs you have installed.

The ONLY thing that fixed this problem, for me, was installing a NEW Motherboard. I, also, put in NEW Memory as I didn't know the condition of the Memory in the old Motherboard and didn't want to take a chance of installing BAD Memory in a NEW Motherboard. Bad Memory can Damage any Motherboard, NEW or OLD. Even though I didn't know the condition of my OLD Video Card, I took a chance on installing it in the NEW Motherboard, but everything worked OK.

Let me tell you, I have been building my own Computers since 1984 and I have NEVER been more frustrated than I was when trying to resolve that HAL.DLL malfunction. If this ever happens to me again, a NEW Motherboard and Memory is my first action!

Question Re: Great Program, But

Hey Beavis And Norm,
Thanks For The Response, But I Think I Got The Problem Solved, But Too Soon To Tell. I Spend 5 Hours With The Techs Where I Purchased My Parts And I Sit There With Them Until I Got Some Anwsers. So Far We Have Got It Down To A Defective Hard Drive. I Bought An Eighty Gig Western Digital. Got Another One Coming Tomorrow, So They Let Me Borrow A 40 Gig To See If That Is Really The Problem. I Loaded Everything Up Last Night And Sit With It For About 5 Hours. As Of Now Everything Is Up And Running Great. Just Hope It Will Stay That Way, But Time Will Tell. As For That Hal.dll File That Will Make Your Stomach Tie Up In Knots.
Norm, I Am Like You If It Happens Again I Will Do The Process Of Elimination.
Beavis, I Tried The Restore Of Repair And Even The Techs Could Not Touch It. Like I Said It Took Them 5 Hours To Figure It Out. My Father Aways Said To Me (don't Calculate Your Juvenile Poutry Before The Proper Process Of Indivision Has Fully Materialized) In Other Words Don't Count Your Chickens Before They Hatch, So That Is What I Am Doing Now Is Waiting To See If This Is The Problem.
Next Question: When I Get My New Hard Drive Can I Transfer What I Have On This One To The New One? I'm Talking About The Kma Files.
Thanks Again

Re: Great Program, But

Glad to see you may be making progress with the problem.

Yes, you can transfer your KMA files to another Hard Drive.

If you make sure and copy them to the exact Drive Letter and Folder, you will not have to rebuild the Database.

Make the Drive, that you are having a problem with, the SLAVE to your New Drive. Copy all KMA's to the New Drive. Remove Old Drive from Computer.

I would suggest getting an External Hard Drive for Backup Purposes.
