Laptop Advice

Looking at purchasing a HP sx5000 laptop for my Karaoke show. Will this system support hoster? If so, is it overkill, just right, or would you recommend something else (Dell,Toshiba...)? Was looking to use an external hard drive would I need alot of space on the laptop if I did? Below is the specs for the HP

From the description, it should work, however, you will need an external plextor drive to read in your karaoke disks.

There is no real way to answer this question with out actually buying the computer and trying it. Every computer has it incompatabilities, that is why I recommend the MTU laptop. They have been tested, and proven to work correctly.

Think about how many cd drives say they will read cdg's, and won't do it right.

As Gduns stated, it will work fine. Due to the system having the ATI Radeon 9600 Video card in the system. You will need the external Plextor as he stated, and then you would be up and running.

here´s a little tip!.I bought a HP NX7000 computer with a similar set up,the only difference being a Centrino chip.No problems with Hoster whatsoever.Then i decided to upgrade my sound output(we all know that the onboard chips are pretty poor).The best solution that i was reccommended was to purchase an Echo Indigo Sound Module to pop into my cardbus slot.So i bought one,put it in and hey presto.... nothing.It turns out that many laptops have an ENE Cardbus controller onboard and this is not compatible to the Echo Indigo.After sending back the card i had to ponder over other solutions for good sound......Firewire or USB ...what a pain i can tell you,so much out there and everybody suggests something different.
Just a little consideration.The Echo Indigo would have been great,it fitted just snug into the laptop.
Now i have a Maya USB and i am frustrated.The background noise from the card & laptop was horrendous,so i had to invest in a Hum Eliminator.What a fuss!.Still you know how it is,we´re always striving for the best for or singers eh!

Hello John, Are you saying that the sound being provided by the HP laptop is poor and doesn't allow for an sound card upgrade? I have talked to one KJ that is running the HP sx5000 and claimed it performed great. Please let me know if your suggesting staying away from HP Thanks, Bob

i have an hp 9010 and it works fine just added a usb sound card and it sounds great.

I have an HP NC6000 and the internal Sound Max card sounds good to me.

Like I said, it is a try me type thing with anything except the MTU Laptop, which was made for audio applications.

I have a compaq presario(made by hp), high end laptop, and it works fine except I have to use the hum eliminator. If you don't purchase a laptop designed to do a specific job, it will be a generic, and made for general purpose applications.

The MTU computers have been tested & configured, and do have a built in cdg reader that works.

The systems no longer have a Built in CD+G drive. They now come with an External USB drive for CD+G. The reason for this is that no company makes a drive that will currently work inside a laptop.
