"Add Track Database Search" problem

I recently uninstalled Hoster 4.20 and went back to version 4.09d because 4.20 take far too long to open up and change playlists. (We only use Hoster at home).

We just used the "Add Track Database Search" function for the first time since going back to the older version only to find the database is empty!

Can anyone help with a solution? I did a rebuild of the songs database to see if this would solve the problem - to no avail!

Re: "Add Track Database Search" problem

Try using the latest release 4.22 which fixed quite a few problems. I don't think you can back up that far. The difference is the newer releases changed (added to) the header. Version 4.09 will not be able to read them. Additionally the password on the internal list for importing changed as well.

Question Re: "Add Track Database Search" problem

Thanks 'dDouglas' for your reply. It looks like I have no choice but to reinstall version 4.20 for now! As for v4.22 that will cost me $US69.99 ($AU81.00 approx), so it might have to wait for a few weeks and also until I have assessed whether it is worth paying to upgrade at the moment considering that we only use it at home.

Can you tell me; are opinions varied as to the speed with which v4.20 opens, or do most users think it is slower than previous versions? Also, in v4.22 has any improvement been made - I saw no mention of it in the changes/fixes?

Regards,

Colin

Re: "Add Track Database Search" problem

Define "far too long" to open. Should open within 5 - 10 seconds at the most and that would depend on computer (processor speed, amount of Ram, other open programs, etc.)
What operating system are you using?
How much Ram on the computer?
When was the last Custom updating you did from Microsoft?
Are you running any other programs at the same time?

Re: "Add Track Database Search" problem

Basic computer specs on my last post!

No other programs in use normally, except antivirus.

'Far too long' is upwards of 2 minutes on the PC - not used the program on the laptop yet!

Regular updates done.

Re: "Add Track Database Search" problem

If by Regular updates you mean the Automatic ones that is not enough.
You need to go to Windows Updates (in Start menu) and do the Custom updates. The Automatic updates only installs any deemed by Microsoft as critical security updates.

What do you mean by custom updates? I am using Windows Vista and have set it to notify me when udates are available and allow me to choose which ones to install.

When I go to 'Start' > 'Windows Update', I seenothing about 'Custom Updates'. From there I can click a link to check for updates, but when I just did this, I was informed that no updates were available!

Re: "Add Track Database Search" problem

Sounds like you have not ever done this. Try going through this check list of things you need to do to run Hoster without problems.
This one is for your desktop:

This one is for your laptop:

ddouglas - if this changes recommended in the links you provided are the "custom" updates you were referring to - yes I have done them and do double check them each time I install a new version of Hoster.

After trying to reinstall v4.20 the Hoster installation program informed me that my 12 months of updates have expired and I need to purchase the latest version!

I cannot understand this as I am only trying to reinstall a version I have already paid for - not the latest version, so I have explained all the issues in a "Webmail Message" to MTU and asking if they can fix this latest issue!

Re: "Add Track Database Search" problem

I believe from what you are saying is you tried to Remove 4.09 and Install 4.20. If this is so that is why you got the message. You have to use the Upgrade instead of removing the old and installing the new. Otherwise you will get this message.

I wantto make sure we were not wrong. You record indicates you ordered an upgrade on December 31, 2008 which gave you upgrades for 12 months, expiring on December 31, 2009. Your last install was Hoster 4.11, which you can still install.

For years we have requested existing users buy an upgrade (at 60% discount) whenever we released an upgrade with features they wanted. An upgrade also allows installing all new releases for the next 12 months. We do make exceptions on bug repairs for existing users who have the prior version.

If you feel our records are in error, please click the SUPPORT link on any http://www.mtu.com/ page and use the Web Email Form. Select Sales for Department and give us what you have different.

Note to Admin: it was v4.20 that I last installed and before that v4.11 - not sure of the date I purchased the former.

I will now reinstall v4.20 as I had the setup files for previous versions on a USB Flash drive, and deleted them, not realising they would be permanently deleted (thought they would go to Recycle Bin first).

To anyone who can help: Why does v4.20 take so long to open and also to change the playlist? 'ddouglas' says it should take 5-10 seconds, but mine (and my brothers) takes anything from 2mins to 2mins 40secs! Other programs running at the same time are at an absolute minimum.

All custom updates done ( if they are what MTU reccomends before installing a new version) Regular Windows updates done.

PC Computer Specs; Windows Vista 32bit, 1.8Ghz Dual Core Processor, 2Gb RAM

As I write this Windows Task Manager shows 60 Processes running, CPU usage 1-6%, Physical Memory 44%. ( Hoster is not yet reinstalled, but this seems to be around the normal when only using web browser)

Re: "Add Track Database Search" problem

Colin,

As I try to remember you have posted a few problems in the past with this same computer, trying to use Hoster for your unique playlist usage, and searching a rather large playlist for your home use. Now you mention that both you, and your brother, are experiencing the same delay when opening Hoster and your private playlists. Something tells me that you are both running the same type of computer, with maybe the same features, processor speed, etc. And just maybe have incorporated the same problem into both of your computers, by your usage of the same programs, etal (Hoster, Anti-Virus, etc. )

First, have you ever run a registry mechanic program? I found this helpful in speeding up my process implimentation, upon first booting up computer ( I run 82 processes on my test machine ), and once I am completely booted up, and click to load Hoster, it takes 7 or 8 seconds for Hoster to load.

Next, let's look again at your playlists... you had rather a large list of songs, that you, your wife, and maybe a guest or two had compiled over quite some time ( I re-read your previous posts from the last couple of years ). Are your home shows still operating using the playlist feature in the same way? You are probably still having problems searching for a particular song, if you haven't changed your proceedure, right?

Why haven't you tried hoster 4.20 on the laptop yet? If it also has the same slow bootup, and loading of Hoster and playlists, it will give us common ground to try to help troubleshoot your problem!

How many song files are in your database? Are they on your C drive, or an external hardrive? How much free space is on your C drive? Have you Defragmented your C drive lately?

Try upgrading to 4.22 after you clear up your account with MTU (if you have already purchased 4.20, then the upgrade should be free ) and simplify our troubleshooting task by using the laptop, with Hoster 4.22, disable the anti-virus after disconnecting the internet, and test it for speed, while monitoring the process applications, as the computer boots, and then after loading Hoster, and your playlist...

If none of this helps, then let Brian at MTU Support hook into your computer, and try to directly fix your problem...

Good Luck Colin!
