Media Player Not Hoster Problem Help!!

Decided to shout it out. First off this is a MTU rack mount pc and it had worked flawlessly and still does. Exception, and problem it has Windows XP windows media player 10.

This past weekend I got a glitch and have a work around but it is driving me bonkers so to speak.

When playing audio files on the media player, it will start up fine but after from several seconds to a couple of minutes it just reboots the PC and everything on the play list is gone.

Okay I'm now using the RealTek player and it works flawlessly and you can build a song list albeit compared to the Media Players flexability it stinks but works.

Hoster audio player works also.

Rackmount PC still seems okay. Before you say put it on line and update, I would like to but can't find any place to hook it up.

I've tried putting media player on a stick from another PC and it opens fine but also reboots the PC. It does make this preacher want to swear.

Any Ideas? Help!! If I could use right mouse click and add files to hoster or the real tek I would be in business. But alas I don't know how.

10 has been working for many many shows. Well over two years. All of a sudden, make up a play list start it and it shuts down and reboots the pc. Like I explained this is windows XP and a MTU rack mount I see no way to get on line with. I tried putting 11 in off my Vista machine and it won't take it. Other than that, I am not the most most literate pc operator. Been getting by on my charm That and asking for advice like I am here.

If you don't see any where to plug it in to the internet then it probably doesn't have a network card or modem. Do you use cable modem, DSL or dial-up? You will need to add the appropriate card to get the computer on line. If it hasn't been on the internet since you purchased it, then there are a lot of upgrades you will need to do along with upgrading to Media Player 11 and Hoster too.

Done a search on C: and it says it has a modem. That and the fact it does have a couple of internet icons. I just don't see any thing that looks like a internet hookup on the back of it. Four USBs, S Video, Keyboard, Monitor, Printer Port and Monitor extra, nine pin input and some other ceramic thing.

Far as getting on the net I have local wireless internet via a small antenna. It is high speed and sure beats the hades out of the dial up I used to have.

I have 11 on my vista machines and one thing I don't like about it vs 10 is I can edit while in the play list with 10. I'm just a fussy old geezer and that part I like.

Swany if you want to try to find out what the problem is, then turn off the Auto Restart.
Right click on My Computer. Go to Properties. Click on the Advanced tab. Then under Startup and Recovery click the Settings button. Under System Failure section uncheck Automatically restart.
Then when you run WMP and play a file that errors out it should show you what the error is. This may lock up the computer but you should be able to tell what is causing the error.
As to the internet connection you can always get a USB wireless network device that should connect you the same way the rest of your computers do. You really should at least upgrade your Windows or you may find future MTU programs won't work right.

Not saying it is fixed but I went to the Library options and just thought wonder if this sucker is making it work too hard. Cleaned out all the bs files and got rid of the auto listing options. Go figure it's been playing for 5 hrs non stop so far. Gonna set it up with 8hrs worth and go night night later on if it don't reboot again. Got my fingers crossed. Maybe after collecting data for 3yrs + it's mind went on a vacation.

Do you have a copy of Media Player 10 installer? If so you might try doing what we have to do sometimes with Hoster. That is to do a complete uninstall (Add or Remove Programs), clean out the registry of Media Player entries, delete Media player entries in Program Files (if you can find them), restart computer and then reinstall it.

Bought a USB to Ehternet Adapter, went on line and AM now Media Player11 and 3.310 to 3.321 Hoster. So far it seems to have done the trick upgrading to 11. Figured if I had to have it on line, may as well catch up with the latest hoster. Three down, one to go. I guess thats what they call moving from Geezerhood to your second childhood.

Did you upgrade Windows too? I know there have been .net Framework updates since the last time you did it

XP + SP2 Leave it as is. Went to the MS site and it said I was good to go, got the whole package with the MP 11 upgrade. It of course had to install all items when I shut it down. If I can remember right it had about an even dozen it installed.
