UAC ver 3.321

Okay, I downloaded the latest 3.321 on my laptop and home pc. Now every time I want to run the prg, I have to allow it to run with a permission from my norton securities. How do I shut that bs off, help please.

you have to do it in nortons.

FYI: i never am online with my show computer except to upgrade.

plus the odds of you getting a virus just from your computer being online is really slim chance. imn sure there are a few here who will argue that but i have a computer that has no protection thats been online for years with no viruses.

When Norton pops up to ask you whjat you want to do, isn't there a box to check to have whatever action you select become the default for that program?

There is with my Norton, but I can't remember the exact wording.

Simply says allow or not. Allow and it lets hoster exe. Just would like to turn off the warning. Did not have that warning before I installed 3.321, now it's on both home pc and laptop. It's got the norton shield but says User Account Control.

3.321 sets Hoster to run as Administrator. This was to make Vista stop moving or deleting files. In your options for your Norton there should be an exception list that you can edit to add Hoster.exe to allow it to operate without the warning message.

My mistake it is the User Account Control that is doing it. Not Norton.

First line. Hoster.exe Unidentified publisher.

Second line. Cancel

Third line. Allow

Click allow and program works normal.

Below this is a details button that does nothing but make the notice larger.

This is the way it will now work under Vista, as you can now run it with UAC on. This reason is the program must be run as an Adminitrator for Vista to allow you to use External hard drives, build your songs database and create the songbook.

If you wish to get rid of these annoying dialogs, then you must do the following http://www.mtu.com/kb/index.php?action=kb&article=87

Well I turned it off, as the only user I guess it all crap with the Vista. I'm told with my HP Laptop I can request a free downgrade to XP (more like upgrade) Wonder how that would work, or am I asking for more problems?

tell them all the trouble with vista, and that you need to downgrade (Ha Ha ) to XP.
they told me they were offering it to everyone who ask.

And XP does not have the UAC so that problem goes away. Actually, that message should only pop-up one time if they have it right, but then again this is Microsoft we are talking about.
I will research in the Technet to see if there is a way to make it go away.

Bryan, Check this
http://technet2.microsoft.com/Window....mspx?mfr=true
and see if this will fix it without turning the UAC off. If I am reading it right then it should. Look under "Scenario 3: Configure User Account Control" at the section for "Change the elevation prompt behavior" Not sure if everyone will be able to do perform this as it is changing Group Policies, but it is worth a shot.

Yep now I'm getting warning pop ups from the security systems. Do believe that is going to find it's way to the trash bin on my laptop.

The change back to XP is looking brighter and better. Do wish I could change them all back and not worry about losing my programs. Anybody done this yet and what if anything was affected?

If you change back, unfortunately you will have to re-install all your programs too. I don't think there is a way to install XP over Vista and not have the drive wiped clean.
The directions are pretty clear in the link I gave above if you are computer savvy enough to try it. If it doesn't work then you can always go back in and reset it back.
