Merge KMA files
Ok, I’m still trying to learn all the bells and whistles of Hoster so try to bear with me. I took the advice of one of the other members on this forum and bought the MTU approved internal drive from the MTU store. I installed Hoster on my home machine and imported several disks onto the home system. I copied the files to a flash drive and went to the laptop and used the “Merge KMA Files” option. I pointed to the flash drive and everything seemed to go just fine. When it finished it showed the files as new releases. I thought everything was fine until I tried to use one of the new releases and Hoster came back and said the file could not be found as it was still looking for the flash drive as the path for the file. I thought during the merge process Hoster would copy the files to the songs directory or am I missing something?

Your KMA files must be in a folder on the computers hard drive or on an external hard drive that is connected to the computer.
Hoster does not copy files. If you keep all of your KMA files in the same folder there is no need to merge your database. Move (copy) your KMA files from the flash drive to a folder you created (example: "c:\Hoster Songs") or use the "c:\Program Files\Micro Technology Unlimited\Songs" folder and use "BUILD SONGS DATABASE" in the Tools menu. Be sure to select this folder by itself before you build. I hope this helps. Jim

Madjim is pretty much correct.
Using Windows Explorer or "My Computer", copy your KMA files from the Memory Stick to the hard drive where your other KMA files are stored. Then, IF... you didn't pay attention to the BookID assigned to the KMA files when you created them on the "other" system, you will need to use the "Merge KMA Files" command. However, IF you did pay attention and you know you did NOT create any KMA files with duplicate BookIDs, then you can simply run the Tools menu "Build Songs Database" command which will add the new KMA files, but only if there are no duplicate BookIDs with KMAs already in the Songs Database created with this command. I.E. as it builds, if it finds any duplicate BookIDs in LATER files being built into the database, it will NOT add the duplicates, protecting the files already there. Only Merge KMA Files can add files by renumbering the duplicate BookIDs to the next higher numbers. I hope I didn't loose you... its late and I'm a bit foggy. ![]() ![]() |

merge kma files
I merged my files to try and renumber the bookids of some files with duplicate bookids. For some reason it is not renumbering the bookids though.
Anyone know about this? Hoster 3.316 Greg |

Unsure of what to suggest since I don't know the specifics of the situation or the procedure you tried but assuming the duplicate bookid's are NOT duplicate diskid's, the only reason they wouldn't import and change numbers would be if they were already imported. Assuming they are imported and you are trying to change them you need to move the duplicate bookid kma's to another folder, rebuild the database of the folders that do not have those kma's, and then perform the merge function on the folder you moved the duplicates to.
