Extended monitor problems...
I started seeing problems arrise when I updated my hoster program... At first I would not get the extended monitor to come up... I would have to reboot from an earlier date... Then I started turning my computer on (with out a ext. monitor pluged in) after I got it up and running I would restart and plug my ext. mon. in and it would work... Now I get nothing on my extended monitor at all... I don't know if it is an issue with my video card (it says there are not problems when I trouble shoot it) or with hoster? Any ideas... I have been using hoster for years and am connecting everything correctly...

This happened to me 6 months ago and Dell Co. determined it was my video card. The motherboard was replaced (with integrated card) and all was fine afterwards. maybe this is your problem as well??

I'm going to try and run my ext. mon. through the s-video port on the card next. (Currently I run it through the RCA plug on it) I'll try it tonight and pray that it works... I hate to have to replace my video card... I'm sure I'll get one so I have it on hand, but I didn't know a video card would fail like that... I thought it was all or nothing with them...

Check your cable to the external monitor first. When this happened to me it was simply a case of having set my table leg on the cable and crushed it. Replaced cable and that fixed it. Cables are cheaper than Video cards too.

I tried many cables... I'll check my settings agian over noon one more time... Hopefully it got changed somehow by accident and only has to be changed back and saved... I have a show tonight and it would be horrible if I have to back out or use the one KJ monitor... (The bar puts the words on a big projection system so the entire place can see it from anywhere... The Crowd loves it...) So today over lunch, it is
1. Check settings and try again 2. Try to run EXT Mon out of the S-Video port and convert it to RCA that way... (I was using the RCA port on the video card) 3. ???? 4. Buy a new Video card... Any suggestions on what will work well... I have a Walmart only a few miles away... Thanks for the help, Ripper |

If you go ATI, make certain it says MADE BY ATI, not POWERED BY ATI.
The Powered by ATI cards are not manufactured by ATI, but by other manufacturers who purchase the rights to use some of the ATI systems. They have been known to cause problems. |

I don't have a computer to borrow one from... I'm hoping an ATI card is available somewhere in town.. Otherwise it's a hour trip to another city for a Best buy... I'll call walmart and make sure it is in stock... I didn't have time over lunch to "try again" and check the settings... It will happen about 5 pm central time then... My gig starts at 7:30 PM tonight... Gotta have it working for that...

To my knowledge,Video cards require the second monitor to be 1) plugged in and 2) turned on BEFORE you turn the computer on. If not, the Video card doesn't come up in dual-display mode. This may be different for different cards, but it is the instructions in the manual under Troubleshooting Guide. |

yes,
I am aware of this and am performing the steps correctly... My comupter friend at my real job says it may be a OS error or set up problem... Anyone have expierence with this issue??? Of course I don't have the OS disc anymore... it broke! I hope it can be fixed for tonights show... I plan to put a new video card in if I have to...

Did you try that suggestion, and/or restoring to a time when things were working just in case there was a glitch in your settings?

ATI card at Walmart... Will NVidea work???
I will try that tonight...
1. Check settings and try again 2. Try to run EXT Mon out of the S-Video port and convert it to RCA that way... (I was using the RCA port on the video card) 3. Try going back to a date that it worked fine (Restore system settings) 4. Buy a new Video card... Any suggestions on what will work well... I have a Walmart only a few miles away... Wallmart carries this... http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...uct_id=4765188 I would like to get one with a RCA port on it already (like I had) but I'll have to buy a converter to use it... My worry is that it is a system problem and not a video card issue... No more os disc (it broke) so I can't re due it... I am worried about tonight's gig to say the least... Ripper |

Will the PCI sound card fit in a 2004 sony Vio desktop??? I'm not really familiar with this PCI or not issue??? I don't really know the difference...
Rip Short for Peripheral Component Interconnect, a local bus standard developed by Intel Corporation. Most modern PCs include a PCI bus in addition to a more general ISA expansion bus. PCI is also used on newer versions of the Macintosh computer. PCI is a 64-bit bus, though it is usually implemented as a 32-bit bus. It can run at clock speeds of 33 or 66 MHz. At 32 bits and 33 MHz, it yields a throughput rate of 133 MBps. Also see PCI-X and PCI Express. |

As far as the card from Walmart the catalog page you linked says it is online only (may just be my location) so I would definately call to make sure they have it in stock at your store. I take it the S-video cable you have isn't S-video to RCA? Not sure if Wally World has one but I know Radio Shack does.

Worked fine last night...
The problem is spiratic... This sucks... Although it worked fine for last night... Show was a great success! (Gee I love Hoster) I'm going to wait till it doesn't work and go from there to try and figure the cause out... Thanks for all the ideas from everyone... This forum is a great place for info... One other questions though...
I believe I had updated my hoster to 3.312 or 13.. However when I'm in hoster and I check the level it says 3.303... Could it be updated and not give me the correct level on that screen? Ripper |
