Can't build a database

I am running Hoster version 2.215 # 2 on Windows XP home edition with service pack 1. I try to do a build songs database and I choose the correct location. I then get a message database build was successful. Then I get a message Field “songs.genre” can’t be a zero length string. (3315) would you like to seek help? I choose yes and I get a message The AllowZerolength property for this field is set to False, prohibiting the entry of a zero length string in the field/ Enter a different values in the field.

chemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />It was running fine until I tried to use an external hard drive for the new location of the songs.

Now when I search I can't bring up any songs at all.

do yourself a favor and update hoster to 3.120 or wait until 3.3 comes out!

before you upgrade, make sure you have all windows updates.

im not sure if it matters if you have sp2 installed or not to upgrade. MTUSUPPORT will have to answer that one.

im sure it wont hurt.

As Beavis stated, Update to the latest version. It will cost you $19.95, but it is well worth the price.

dont delete them, just transfer them to an external hard drive.

you should have a backup of all your karaoke collection (KMA) anyways.

dont delete them

Hi B:

Of course I have the karaoke songs on two backup external hard drives. I was just deleting 800 songs to make room on my internal hard drive to accomodate XP service pack 2. Next - I don't want to upgrade unless I'm sure this problem sill not persist. I just updated to SP2 and I still have the same problem.

Build Songs Database

HI Nreel:

The Songs Database destinatin folder is - C:\program Files\Micro Technology Unlimited\Hoster\Databases\ I then made an folder on the C drive Called Songs 2 and selected that as the destination folder but got the same message. I had to control alt delete to close hoster and when I restarted it the database apparatley defaulted back to C:\program Files\Micro Technology Unlimited\Hoster\Databases\. I again tried to build a database and again got the same error.

Frustrated

Tony,

There are TWO Boxes in the BUILD SONGS DATABASE Window.

The Top Box is SELECTABLE and is where all your KMAs reside. If you have moved all your KMAs to an External HD, then your SONGS SOURCE FOLDER should look like this:
D:\Songs
where <D> is the DRIVE LETTER that designates your External Drive
and,
where <Songs> designates the FOLDER on the External Drive where you KMAs are stored.

The Bottom Box is DEFAULTED to where you installed Hoster. If you installed Hoster in its DEFAULT location, then, the SONGS DATABASE DESTINATION FOLDER should look like this:
C:\Program Files\Micro Technology Unlimited\Hoster\Databases\

The HOSTER's Database is NOT the same as your KMA Storage Drive/Folder. And, HOSTER's Database CANNOT be located on an External Drive.

Select the Drive/Folder where your KMAs are located and RE-BUILD the DB.

Otherwise, re-run the Hoster Install.exe, select REMOVE, re-run the Hoster Install.exe, again, and re-Boot the Computer when Hoster has finished Installing.

Open Hoster, Open the BUILD SONGS DATABASE, SET/SELECT the correct DRIVE/FOLDER where your KMAs are located, and Click the BUILD SONGS DATABASE Button.

Database

Hi Nreel:

I've tried all the things you suggested. Except reinstall which I've been hesitating to do because I don't know if I have to go on line to register again. I'll give it a try and see if I have to re register. Thaks a bunch. You obviously know your stuff.

DAtabase

I uninstalled and reinstalled hoster several tilmes. I changed the folder it was in - no good. I re installed and went for the default folders no good. Before doing that I deleted all the kma files from my "Songs" folder because some of them were compressed. Then I copied some kma files from my external hard drive into the "Songs" folder - none were compressed and it still gives me the same error message when I try to build a database. What do I do?
