![]() It seems to me that some of my .kma files are getting progressively worse over time - going from clean graphics to more and more of a "confetti" look. This is a different issue than when they actually record "bad" and look like this from the very beginning - these definitely had been displaying perfectly but are starting to get garbled. Is anyone else seeing this? Is there a resolution to this other than re-recording the specific tracks that "go bad"?

I have had my songs on computer for almost 3 years and I haven't seen any files getting glitches in them. Only ones I have had that way were if they were inported that way. Most of the time that is caused by a scratched or dirty disc. Other wise I havn't seen any go bad in 3 years. I have moved the files a number of times to my backup hard drive and also to my backup computer and everything is good.

if you think its the hard drive, burn a few songs that you know play bad to a cd and then play them like a singers bringing in his own disc. or even better try playing one from a cd-g.

Digital files do not degrade. Period! You can take that to the bank.
Computer hardware can degrade, and that is what the others are suggesting to you. I'd first make a backup of your KMA files to another hard drive or CD/DVDROM discs, if you haven't already. Are you noticing any strange video behavior? If so, your graphics card may be the cause as was suggested. If other programs show their video images without any distortions, then its probably not the video card. Next, run a disc test to see if there are any errors on your hard drive. It it shows up a significant number of bad sectors (the disc test SW may make recommendations), you are running on borrowed time. Consider replacing your hard drive. ![]() |

thanks for suggestions
Thanks to all for your suggestions. The system is relatively new - all components less than 6 months old. In general, everything appears to be working well. I do see some issue with singer's disks when they bring them in (will save to disk slightly garbled on occasion), but I figure their disks are the issue - either well used or they're frequently copies. I'll run system checks on stuff to make sure the hardware is OK. Thanks again.
