Question Editing of .cdg (kmi) files

Hello from the Emerald Isle!

I am a recent convert to MTU and Hoster, and after all the fun and games loading discs and files from the hard drive - I'm ran my first show from hoster with great success. I picked up lots of good advice from reading the posts - thanks to all!

My problem is with the dead space (title or credits) at the begining and end of each file. They are fine for the Karoake (guest singer) part of the show. However at the start and end of each night I sing myself and get the crowd on the dance floor. Before hoster I used two players and cue-ed them so as one song was fading, the next was coming up with no gap.

I can get rid of the end credits by hitting "skip" in Hoster, but I still have a gap before the music starts on the next track.

Ideally I would like to edit the .cdg (.kmi?) files and save them into a "performance" playlist in Hoster.

But I have not seen any software to do this (is Karaoke Home Pro the answer?), has anyone come up against this before?

I tried converting the .cdg files to MPEG and editing them using Video editing software - however the result changed both the pitch and the tempo. Any help greatly appreciated.

You could produce your own CDG with MTU's Karaoke Home Producer.

Another piece of software that claims to be able to cut time out of CDG's is CGDFix 2 Pro. I have never used the feature myself and the software is lacking in instructions and there is no user's manual. It is great for correcting CDG graphics glitches.

I'm not aware of anything specificly for that purpose, although I've often thought that after Hoster get's perfected I would suggest to MTU they create something that would edit cdg's And/or kma's.

MTU as of late has been talking about adding crossfading capabilities to Hoster, I don't know what kind of time table they are looking at. I would imagine it will be down the road a bit.

I've got one other thought though it's not quick or easy. I'll PM you with details.

Only partialy true. A beta had a fade out but some wrinkles turned up that need to be ironed out first .

Smile my idea

Hi ,i suggest if you do not need the words on-screen ,you transfer your songs you sing onto minidisc then cut the bits of silence off. Then after you have them like you want ,transfer them back to the computer ,makeing them into .mp3 files. All being well you can then load them as audio files and away you go. This is what i have done ,i am 1 half a duo and we now use hoster to run our show ,it works fantastic.

thanks nath.

Thanks Nathan,

Ideally I would like to keep the words, but understand that I am probably just being lazy

When you load the edited files back as MPG's, do you re-import them to Hoster (using the custom disc import??) or do you just play them though Media Player?

Cheers for all the help

Thumbs up mp3s

You then use HOSTER to play the mp3's files. Just use the import audio tab to locate and import your mp3's into your playlist. I do this myself ,i make up to sets -1 for the first half of my show and another set for the second half of my show ,and then save them as set1.playlist file ect.

thanks nath.

Several options right now for you...

You can use the Add Track MP3 button to add them into the Playlist directly... OR...

You can use Karaoke Home Producer (KHPro) to import the music (.wav only ) and export it as a .cdg files. You could add some text at the start if you wish, or type in the full lyrics to all the songs if this is a "medley" of songs crossfaded together.

You can also use the music as .wav files (versus convert to .mp3), then write them to a CD audio disc using Microstudio. The, import the audio tracks back into Microstudio with the CDG button enabled in the Import Tab. This will make the file a .cdg, which you can then import into Hoster as a .kma file.

We have in our specs to add a way in Hoster for you to press a "start key" and a "stop key" where you want a KMA file to start and stop playing. This would allow you to effectively cut off the Title and Credits pages. In some cases, the graphics may be affected if you cut part way through a Title page as the music often starts part way into the Title page drawing.

We also have a "Crossfade" capability in our specs. Yes, we did have a BETA VERSION with Fade Out in it. It was removed and never released because there so many entanglements and variant operations on W2K and XP. We'll add it back in some day when we have the time to spend another 40+ hours on tracking down the Windows differences....

As we are still trying to keep our reputation clean with the Karaoke Producers, we continue to refuse to write a program that will strip the Title and Credits graphics, leaving only the music and lyrics. It can be done...
