Angry Can't install MSTUDIO 2610 due to 'general protection fault' during install shield

Receive the following message when I start the install of Microstudio 2.610.

MSTUDIO2610SETUP caused a general protection fault

in module at 0000:822a5152.

Have a previous old version of Microstudio (v2.103) installed currently, but I do not receive the option of de-installing as explained in your install instructions.

It blows up immediately after I start the install wizard with the message above.

Please help. I need to use the package soon.

Thanks,

drataj

Re: Can't install MSTUDIO 2610 due to 'general protection fault' during install shield

Make sure that you are downloading the Installation to your computer, using Save, to your Hard Drive, not the Open selection.

If you are doing this, then make sure that you have Run all of the Windows Updates, there is something damaged on your computer that is causing this.

What version of Windows are you running? It will only work under 2000 or XP, and some 98 or ME systems with all updates and a network card in the system.

Re: Can't install MSTUDIO 2610 due to 'general protection fault' during install shield

I'm running on Windows 98.

Ran all Windows 98 upgrades as you suggested and still get the same error.

Do I have to install Windows 2000 to install the update?

I wasn't planning planning spending that much to install an update to Microstudio.

Is there any other way to install the update without using the wizard.

That's all I really wanted to do was use a more recent PLEXTOR drive PX-708A because my old drive pooped out.

I thought that I needed the latest update to use the new drive, but I didn't think I had to install a whole new operating system.

Please help.

I not sure where to go from here.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Dennis.

Check to make sure that you don't have Windows 98 First Edition, as this is the only thing that I can think of. We only supported Second edition and ME, but the future versions will no longer support 98 or ME at all.

Re: Can't install MSTUDIO 2610 due to 'general protection fault' during install shield

I checked and I DO have Windows 98 first edition with all upgrades applied.

I think I'm caught between a rock and a hard place.

I just want to install the MSTUDIO 2610 upgrade, and not be forced to upgrade to a new Operating system (Windows 2000. XP).

This will cost me more than I really want to spend just to be able to write to a newer PLEXTOR drive and also may compromise my system because of the additonal resources needed by the newer Operating systems.
Any suggestions on how I can load the newer MSTUDIO 2610 over my older version into my system without upgrading to a new Operating system.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: Can't install MSTUDIO 2610 due to 'general protection fault' during install shield

I am becomming very impatient with the FORUM approach of handling problems.

I have done everything that you have suggested and have posted my responses and have not received any response.

I now have a version of MICRO STUDIO that won't handle my new PLEXTOR drive, can't install the new versions because of a 'general protection fault' for which I receive an answer that SOMETHING is wrong with my system and I can't buy an old PLEXTOR drive that your old version will support.

Installed the latest version of Windows '98 which by the way is not stated as a caviat for loading the software.
It still doesn't work.

Please send a refund for the original version and the update since I can't use the old or new version of the software.

I have sent many people to your company, and am dissatisfied with the support I am receiving.

Please respond if you any desire to keep me or my many friends as current and future KJ customers.

Re: Can't install MSTUDIO 2610 due to 'general protection fault' during install shield

Go to My computer or Windows Explorer

Left click the Program Files
Left click Common Files
Delete the Installshield Folder.

Then try the Install again and see what happens.

Re: Can't install MSTUDIO 2610 due to 'general protection fault' during install shield

NO LUCK Brian;

Deleted Install shield folders as you suggested and STILL get the same 'general protection error'.

Also, after many attempts, I gave up and re-loaded the old version of MSTUDIO and now the old version does not respond.

I have to END-TASK to stop MICROSTUDIO.

So now, I can't use MICROSTUDIO for anything.

Please help, or maybe I can get a refund since I can't seem to be able to use the package.

Thanks for your help, but I get frustrated easily.

Re: Can't install MSTUDIO 2610 due to 'general protection fault' during install shield

I would say that it is not going to work on your system. The problem is the computer has some part that Installshield needs that is damaged.

Your old version was 2.103, which was ancient. Also, this can't be guranteed to work on current OS's.

Please email your request for a refund to the sales dept, located on this page:
http://www.mtu.com/support/contact-mtu.htm

Please post the link to this thread in there for them to see, that I have told you to do this.
