songbook from hoster

I have printed several song lists from the rtf files that hoster makes. I still have problem with getting the last name first and first name last. I have tried checking the boxes both ways. Is this still a problem or has it been fixed?

Unhappy Songbooks

I can't seem to get them to do it wright either. Some of them print first name first and some last name first.

This has been fixed, but it is in your Database. Now there will be some Songs that you would have typed in that have no way to know which way you typed them in. So there will be some that will not show FirstName,LastName. Do you get any that do this or do they all only show the one way?

Cool

Bryan
All my songs were typed in first name first, last name last. As in George Jones, Conway Twitty.

When you import a new disc, MTU's database is also first name first and last name last

I think they did that in one version to fix a search problem, and I may be wrong. But I thought in the latest version the database has it as I said, and uses the comma as a delimiter to make it so it can print both ways

All Entries in the Database should be last name, (comma+space) First name.

The reversal from "jones, george" can only be made with the [comma+space] in place.

It will also change "Temptations, The" to "The Temptations" and still aphabetize under "Te" not "The"

If you see an artist in the database when you import as "George Jones" then change it BEFORE THE IMPORT to "Jones, George" and then you will have the option of first or last name first work correctly.

Email me if you're interested in a method to make these changes really easy....without having to import the file again.

Question Re: songbook from hoster

I just printed my first songbook by song title. While proofreading it, I have found that when there is more than one artist name, it lists the first artist's name at the end. I think this looks very strange. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there anyway to change the format on this? An example is:

Imported as: Frickie, Janie & Merle Haggard

Appears in song title listing as: Janie & Merle Haggard Frickie

I am finding so many changes I need to make before my songbooks are correct, I sure hope this isn't another huge problem. I just finished importing over 10,000 songs. Would hate to think that the artist names should have been imported in a different format on these.

Can anyone help??

Re: songbook from hoster

To have "Janie Frickie & Merle Haggard" to print correctly you need to import or edit it to "Frickie & Merle Haggard, Janie."

Re: songbook from hoster

I thought I had entered any new ones imported that were not in the database in the same format that the database was using. Is the database wrong on these? I sure hope I don't have to go back and correct all of these. That will suck as this is taking forever already it seems.

If I enter them as you say, how will they appear in the songbook pages by Artist Listing? The artist names in my Artist Listing songbook pages are currently all showing the way I want them to look. It's only the Song Listing songbook pages that have them showing the other way (see previous post).

I would like them to show up as follows in both the Song Listing pages and the Title Listing pages:

Frickie, Janie & Merle Haggard

If I enter them as you say, will they come out like above in both the Song Listing and Artist Listing? I'm afraid it might correct the Song Listing, but then the Artist Listing will not be right.

I hope this makes sense. Thanks for any help on this. Nitecat Karaoke

Re: songbook from hoster

Yes, they should be listed the same in both the title and artist pages because both lists are taken from the song headers when you import or edit them the way you want. When you enter an artist name whatever you list before the comma is considered the last name and whatever you list after the comma is considered the first name. So, to have the name you used in your example to come out as "Frickie, Janie & Merle Haggard" you would enter it as you import or edit after you have imported as "Frickie, Janie & Merle Haggard." When you go to the tools menu and select to build your songbook it asks if you want the first name first or the last name first. You would choose last name first. Because the last name as it is listed above is "Frickie," which is before the comma, and the first name would be "Janie & Merle Haggard," which is after the comma. This should give you what you are looking for.

Re: songbook from hoster

Thanks so much for the information. I guess I'll be making a ton of corrections to my database using the edit song feature. I don't know how else to fix them. I wish I had known this before importing 900 CDGs. Now that you have clarified things, I find in the Hoster Manual where it tells you how to enter the song and artist names for multiple artist names. It is exactly as you say EXCEPT I believe there is an error in one of their examples. They show one example as:

Andrews, Jessica & Sara Evans

I think this is incorrect based on the other examples and what you have told me. I read this section before importing and obviously figured I was OK to enter them this way because of this example. Doing it this way will now cause me a lot of work to fix the entries. Am I missing something here or is this example in the manual wrong??

ADMIN, could you check this in the manual and see if it needs to be corrected??

Thanks. Nitecat Karaoke

Re: songbook from hoster

Admin, I'm still wanting to know if this is an error in the manual? It affected how I entered the multiple artists when importing and appears now that I will need to make a lot of corrections. I hope others avoid this problem. Thanks. Nitecat Karaoke

Question Re: songbook from hoster

Hasn't anyone else had this problem with multiple artist names in their songbook song listing? Why can't I get an answer from the moderator or admin about whether there is an error in the example in the manual? Is there something special I need to do to get an answer from them on my post? Does anyone have a suggestion about an easier way for me to fix this other than using edit song for each song?? Thanks. Nitecat Karaoke

This is the correct format.

I don't know of a fix if you have typed the Artist and Song names in wrong. This has been a sticky point for a long time, and we continue to work on it.

Chip Staley mentioned above he has an easy fix. Drop him a Private Message (PM) and see what he recommends.

Re: songbook from hoster

Thanks so much for the response. I do hope that the one incorrect example in the manual will be corrected. Should make it less confusing. Also, does it explain what a sticky is somewhere for new people? It has taken me awhile to figure out about those somewhat. I wonder if there are others who are new who don't know what they are. I do study the forum almost daily to learn everything, but there is SO much to understand. It can be overwhelming for those of us that are new. I'll have to see if I can find the sticky on artist names. I have sent Chip a private message as was suggested, so hope to hear from him for more help.
