Slow Sweep Still Not Fixed
I'm still fighting a nagging problem with the graphics sweep being slow. I know now that it has nothing to do with hoster..but I still am experiencing the problem. Perhaps someone with a keen knowlege of Directx may be able to help. Here Goes:
I have narrowed the problem down to the directx settings in 2 places: 1. DirectDraw Acceleration needs to be disabled 2. The Hardware sound acceleration needs to be set at basic acceleration At these settings Hoster graphics sweep is perfect. However the problem comes when the computer is rebooted or shut down DirectX does not save those settings. So when I turn on the computer and open hoster and play a song the graphics sweep is slow. The only way that I can get them in sync again is to go to DirectX Diagnostic Tool and reset the settings. When I go in to do this it shows the corrrect settings but I actually have to bring the sound acceleration setting to Standard and then back to basic to make it work. Don't know why but this works. What is interesting is that sometimes it will not work on basic acceleration and so I have to use the standard to do the trick, and other times the basic setting is what will work. This is each and every time I wish to use Hoster. I never had this problem prior to downloading 2.213 #3 then it all started...I checked all downloads prior to downloading this version and I had no downloads with the exception of MTU and Hoster version prior to 2.213 #3 no other programs were downloaded for a full month prior. I did do a DirectX 9.0c download about 20 days after Hoster 2.213#3 but the problem began right after this hoster download and I was just trying to eliminate the possibility that I was not current on my directx version. I tried getting help from microsoft but it is like beating my head against the wall. I'm in way over my head and could use any help that you could offer. I have used hoster successfully with this laptop for 8 months without encountering this problem. Of course at this point my frustration level is quite high ![]() Flipper |

Re: Slow Sweep Still Not Fixed
does this accelleration problem happen equally with all labels, or just certain ones in particular. If it's only certain ones, can you list the disc maker and titles?

Re: Slow Sweep Still Not Fixed
"it works" meaning, the sweep is slow on all labels? Or did you fix the problem?

Re: Slow Sweep Still Not Fixed
yes the sweep is slow on all labels. I have a fix for the problem if I want to reset the directx settings everytime I reboot the computer. but this is very time consuming.
I will continue this way if I have to, but from day one on this computer I have not had to mess with the directx settings to get hoster to sweep correctly. Up until the last hoster upgrade the problem did not exist. Again I'm not saying that Hoster is the cause of the problem..... The problem just started the same day that I downloaded the new upgrade. hope this helps flipper |

Re: Slow Sweep Still Not Fixed
Flipper,
When you change the DirectX Hardware acceleration it should always hold this when the computer is rebooted. I am not sure why your computer is not holding this setting. This is part of Windows, and there is no other control over this setting, that I am aware of. You may also try going to the Laptop Manufacturers website, and get the very latest drivers for your motherboard (Chipset Drivers) and also the latest video drivers for that Laptop. Have you run all of the Windows Updates also? If not then I would recommend doing this also.

Re: Slow Sweep Still Not Fixed
If DirectX still won't hold it's settings after trying what Bryan suggested, you can go in through the back door.
Open CONTROL PANEL. Open SOUNDS AND AUDIO DEVICES. Open AUDIO. Under SOUND PLAYBACK DEFAULT DEVICE open ADVANCED. Open PERFORMANCE. You can now change the audio hardware accellerator. If it still won't hold the new setting, something is not right with the os, as Bryan indicated. George |

Re: Slow Sweep Still Not Fixed
Went to Mfg's site and downloaded chipset driver, and video driver updates.
Also spent quite a bit of time online w/Toshiba Support. They cannot figure out problem. After updates no change in status. I have been holding off downloading windows SP2 due to many problems associated with it. I do see however that my windows update did download about 6 files about 3 days after the problem started that say SP2 on them. I'm not sure if I has anything to do with the problem. Short of doing a complete restore it appears there are no other fixes available. I have narrowed the workaround down to the sound acceleration setting in directx. No matter what the setting says after I boot up the sweep is not in sync. All I have to do is go in and move the aceleration setting to any other setting and Hoster sweeps perfectly. If I reboot for whatever reason it will not hold settings. I have found that the directdraw disable does not make any changes to the sweep. I have a new portable pc coming from you folks today so I will be able to do a complete restore on the laptop without interrupting my show schedule. flipper |

Re: Slow Sweep Still Not Fixed
I'm having the same problem as Flipper. Sound playback default device is a Realtek AC97 audio device. I tried changing through DirectX and through the control panel. If I start Hoster or reboot the computer it resets the hardware acceleration to full. What can I do to fix this?

Re: Slow Sweep Still Not Fixed
Con't know if this wlould work or not, but may be worth a try.
After setting the Sound Hardware Accellerator to where the sweep is correct, try creating a restore point before doing anything else. One would think that would lock in the settings. George |

Re: Slow Sweep Still Not Fixed
How do you do that? I can't find an opton to create a restore point. I also cannot get the sweep correct. As soon as I start Hoster it resets the acceleration. BTW thanks for helping. John

Re: Slow Sweep Still Not Fixed
Boy, just noticed my typos...grrr.
With XP to set a restore point, at the top of any windows screen(my documents,c:, etc),click on HELP, then HELP AND SUPPORT CENTER, then under PICK A TASK, open UNDO CHANGES WITH SYSTEM RESTORE, then click CREATE A RESTORE POINT, then NEXT, then give it a name, anything you'll recognize will do, then click CREATE. Since you're having the problem you are, immediately after setting the audio hardware accellerator down a notch(to the left), I'd do this. Don't open Hoster to check it out until you've done this first. If you see some, but not full improvement, you can repeat the process and move the accellerator another notch. This is a wierd problem. Windows is supposed to hold the settings. I don't know if this will cure it or not, but setting a restore point is supposed to lock in all the p.c.settings. Before doing this you might want to delete any unwanted programs, files, temp internet files, etc, etc, and perhaps even do a disc defrag if you haven't done one in a while. Then you'd be starting fresher. Hope this helps, George |

Re: Slow Sweep Still Not Fixed
Tried it without the defraging. Didn't work. I'll defrag and reboot and try it again.

Re: Slow Sweep Still Not Fixed
Don't think the defragging would be material to the problem. I just figured if you were going to set a restore point it might be a good idea to clean things up a bit.
Would love to be wrong and have it work after a defrag ![]() George |

Re: Slow Sweep Still Not Fixed
I have never seen a system that would not hold the Settings for the Hardware Acceleration. This is all controlled by Microsoft, so you may check to see if there are any Articles on their website at http://msdn.microsoft.com . Click on Search and Type in Hardware Acceleration.
This is the only thing that I can think of for you to try.
