Question Song Book Blues

I have never gotten a reponse from MTU on my post regarding the song book issue.

I have tried everything to get the artists file to be built last name first. I even tried with the new upgrade, and still no luck

A little help would be greatly appreciated. One person emailed me and said that I need to go in and manually edit the database, and that seems like a helluva lot of work.

You would think that there would be some way to do it with the software, especially when it was presented that way before I bought it.

Not a very happy camper!!

Am having no dificulty what so ever printing songbook last name first.

Perhaps you missed a step in the instructions in the manual. Might try retracing your steps.

It does work.

What version are you running?

If we knew your version, we can give you more directed instructions. Complaining without facts in the post leaves us no choice but to ask for them.

Angry Song book

Actually I was complaining about the lack of a response to my last post. That was the fact !! I paid a lot of money for this program originally and I don't need attitude. Thanks! Now, let's move on.

I am currenty using 2.2.0.9 . Previous version was 2.126. I tried everything I was told to do, short of editing the whole song list in Access.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Song Book Blues

jerst,

When you select "Tools", then "Prepare Song Book...", I assume you checked "Last name First." After the song book files have been created and you open the file ARTISTS.RTF what results do you see -

1. None of the artists' names appear "last name first"
2. Some artists' names appear "last name first"
3. Most artists' names appear "last name first"

The reason I ask is, I had a similar problem when I first got started with Hoster. The problem turned out to be me. Some of the CDG's I imported were in the Hoster database and all of the CDG information got filled in automatically and properly, LastName comma FirstName. I didn't have to enter the data by hand. Other CDG's of course were not in the Hoster database and I entered the data by hand. My error was that when entering the artists' name I entered it "FirstName LastName". Now, when the song book files were created, "Last Name First", the songs that were in Hoster's database were fine but the songs that I had entered came out as I had entered them "FirstName LastName." The "Prepare Song Book" routine is looking for the comma between the first and last name. My hand entered data didn't have the comma. The solution of course was to go back and correct my mistakes. Took me a week, not fun .

Question

Actually most entries are first name first, with a smatteirng of last name first, which is the way I wanted it.

I have only entered a few disks on my own, with all others coming from the Hoster database. Of course the version I had installed when I imported most of the disks was from a couple of years ago, if that makes a difference.

I tried again yesterday to fix the database, first by doing an auto update, then updating the KMA headers, to no avail

I re-read the manual again yesterday, and from what I see, that is all you should have to do.

Thanks

jerst,

Try the following:

Go to your Hoster directory and open the "Databases" folder.
In the "Databases" folder remove the following:
1. All song book files with a .RTF extension.
2. The "TEMP1.ldb" and "TEMP1.MDB" files.
3. The "hoster.dat" file.
4. The "songs.mdb" and "songs_backup.mdb" files.

Open Hoster and it will ask you if you want to create a songs database, click "Yes".
Once the database is created go to the Tools menu and click on "Prepare Song Book".

Check ARTISTS.RTF and see if the corrections you have made to your imported songs are entered correctly now.

Unhappy

I just don't get it.

I have tried everything everyone has suggested, I tried Gary's suggestion 3 times, and nothing changes

I am so frustrated. My show starts up in a couple of weeks, and I really wanted to get this right.

Any other suggestions short of blowing up my computer?

Since you asked...

Use ARTISTS.. FIRST NAME FIRST

OR...use TITLES.

Either would be preferable to getting totally frustrated or blowing up the computer until this can get resolved, and I've no doubt it will get resolved. MTU usually comes through.

We went for a long time without Last Name First capability. Simmer down, it's only "stuff".

Angry urggggg

Well you can certainly understand my frustration. It is now over 10 days since my original post, and since the only response from MTU.

I have even emailed Doug Cox with no response.

This is without a doubt some of the worst customer service I have ever experienced .........no wait................

I use Microsoft software
