external drive where are you??
Hi there, I've been through so many threads trying to find my answer, but can't.
I bought a 120gb external drive to back up my kma files, but can't get hoster to recognize them on the new drive. It seems to be looking still on the c drive. I tried to direct it to the new drive through configure/build song database, and tell it to go to the external, and still no luck. My C drive is nearly full and I'm afraid of crashing! What am I doing wrong?? |

Finding KMA Files
Sherri
In the BUILD SONG DATABASE Menu, are you telling Hoster to look for KMA files where it says SONG SOURCE FOLDERS or are you at the bottom of the Menu where it says SONG DATABASE DESTINATION FOLDER? Also, have you moved/copied all your KMA files to the EXTERNAL DRIVE and, are you going to use the EXTERNAL DRIVE exclusively? Two things: 1. Hoster may have several SONG SOURCE FOLDERS...meaning, you could still use the C: drive for your current KMA files which will have a PATH like this C:\Program Files\Micro Technology Unlimited\Hoster\Imported Songs (assuming you installed HOSTER in the DEFAULT directory) and, simply ADD another FOLDER that has a PATH to your EXTERNAL HD, KMA Files, that could look like this D:\Imported Songs. This, of course, all depends on where you saved your KMA FILES on the new EXTERNAL HD and the DRIVE LETTER Designation of your EXTERNAL HD (I used D: for this example and refers to your EXTERNAL HD). You MUST place your KMA files in a FOLDER. As far as I can tell, you cannot designate just D: as a source of your KMA FILES. The ADD SONG FOLDER only lets you input a source FOLDER. So, if you copied all your KMA FILES to D:, make another FOLDER on the D: Drive and name it Imported Songs, or what ever you want, as long as it's a FOLDER, then, copy/move all the KMA FILES to that FOLDER. Now, you will be able to ADD a new SONG SOURCE FOLDER that points to your EXTERNAL HD. 2. Only use one (1) SONG SOURCE FOLDER for all your KMA FILES that will be located on your EXTERNAL DRIVE. You could, just, copy all KMA FILES to the D:\Imported Songs (if D: is the Drive Letter Designation of your EXTERNAL DRIVE). In this case, in the SONG SOURCE FOLDERS, you would click on SELECT FOLDER and navigate to your EXTERNAL HD designated letter and then CLICK on the Imported Songs FOLDER (or whatever NAME of the FOLDER you decided to use) and CLICK on SELECT. This will transfer the PATH to the SONG SOURCE FOLDERS window. You can DELETE the SONG SOURCE FOLDER, that is no longer needed, by CLICKING on the PATH to HIGHLIGHT it, and, then, CLICK on DELETE FOLDER. Once you have your KMA FILES situated in a FOLDER, of your choice (I would suggest naming the FOLDER Imported Songs to be uniform), and, once you have the SONG SOURCE FOLDERS corrected to point to the KMA FILES on your EXTERNAL HD, then, Rebuild the Database to finish. NOTE: Since you are running out of room on your C: Drive, you will, probably, want to change the SAVE TO FOLDER under the IMPORT TRACK window for future IMPORTS so that future IMPORTED TRACKS will be saved to the correct FOLDER on the EXTERNAL HD. Hope this helps, Norm |

Hi Norm, and thanks so much for your quick response!! I placed a folder on my external drive, which is G , named it Karaoke, put my kmas in it, and the drive lights up when I click on it for 'song source folder'., so I believe it is reading it. I used a folder named karaoke, as I did on my C drive. It still goes back to the c drive when I try to bring the songs up though. I tried deleting my C files so maybe it would search for the G drive, but had to bring them back because it couldn't seem to find the songs. I must be misunderstanding you somewhere!

Follow-up
1. Delete the SONGS.MDB - If you do not know how to DELETE the SONGS.MDB you can read how to do this at this thread (nreel near bottom of Page 1):
http://forum.mtu.com/showthread.php?...lete+songs.mdb 2. Delete any reference to the C: Drive in the SONGS SOURCE FOLDERS Window. 3. ADD a PATH to your KMA SONGS on the G: DRIVE - Should look like this: G:\Karaoke 4. Rebuild the DATABASE When the DATABASE gets rebuilt (SONGS.MDB), HOSTER should use DRIVE letter G:\ to replace DRIVE letter C:\ on all entries in the SONGS.MDB so Hoster knows where to find them. oh goody, now all kma files are missing. I do have them on the external drive, but I guess, if I may ask for someone to call me for additional help, it would be so much appreciated!!

commending Norm!!
![]() For those of you in trouble as I was, I have never been so impressed with computer/hoster help than the assistance that I received from Norm. His prompt and courteous responses got me up and running in no time. I could not find the file extentions to delete the songs mdb when needed, and he directed me to tools, folder options and veiw, and unchecked 'hide extentions for known file types'. Hopefully this helps someone else with the same problem. Good Luck to all, and thanks again to Norm for superior customer assistance!! |

A bug is involved here also...
Due to an unexpected but, Hoster 2.014 requires you to manually delete the Songs.mdb Database file before running the Build Songs Database command. We are sorry this bug got released.
![]() In Hoster 2.1xx, this was fixed and should be available for release around next Monday. We hope to have the final beta test version out this Wednesday for testing. There are a few problems left that we are solving right now. ![]() |
