Install on two Computers

I'm very much interrested to buy Hoster as a Christmas gift for my self but before I do I would have some questions:

1) Can I install the existing version on two computers?
2) If yes, how do I do it?
3) Am I better off buying now at this price and benefit of the upgrade for free later?

I'll tell you how I plan to use Hoster and maybe you can guide me?

I would like to install on my desktop where I have a cdg burner, so this way all my files will be in this machine and would like to use my Laptop (no cdg burner) to play my some selected file for my own use. I'm not running a Karaoke show but will be singing live and I tought Hoster would be the perfect tool of course if I can run it on both machine.

I'm not speaking for the company but this is what I've gleened.

Hoster2.014 can be run on multiple machines (one at a time) by registering the software to a usb ethernet device that can be moved from machine to machine.
The Hoster upgrade 2.1 however will be registered to a particular machine much the same way Microsoft does with their new products.

My advice would be to purchase 2.014 , get a usb ethernet adaptor and install it on both machines, after you're up and running get the upgrade for the machine you're going to use for performing (who knows how long they will support 2.014 if it needs to be reinstalled for some reason, and who knows how long the upgrade will remain at $50.)

We are rapidly moving towards Hoster being able to play protected new CDG songs as well as your current songs.

We have 3 of the major producers now interested in working with us, and we haven't even contacted anyone yet. Thus, Hoster 2.1 is locked to one computer.

The $50 upgrade will be available for a while. We would like everyone to upgrade to 2.10x. We have fixed a lot of bugs, added new features, made it much easier to use and are now working on playing audio songs imported as WMA files as well as playing the KMA Karaoke songs it now does. We are also working on playing VCD and DVD discs, later importing them to the hard drive and into the Songs Database to select and add them to the Playlist.

We are not yet finished with our web scripts to allow you to upgrade your existing version on one computer it is now installed on, but that is our direction.

So what happens when your at a party and the computer dies?
I used dj power and I can take the dongle out and put it on the backup computer and continue if I have a problem with one computer.
This is a step in the reverse direction.
So for a back up you are requriing people to buy two licenses and two copies of every karaoke disk they use?

I guess thats like asking what do you do if you get hit by a truck going to a gig.

In my rig, I have a 3 drawer jvc for a backup, but havent ever had to use it. For safety, take a ups along so if you have power go out you don't have a crash. I keep a spare hot "C" os drive in case the C drive crashes, but you cant prepare for everything.

what i am saying is the dongle was a GOOD idea as you can have two computers ready to go and just move the dongle over to the other one if their is a problem.

Other companies like dj power and ots dj use this with great success.

If tying Hoster to one computer is what it takes to get the karaoke manufacturers to work with us (the KJ's using computers) instead of constantly trying to frustrate us I'd say it's a decent trade off.

I don't know why they would be opposed to using the dongle method but if they are they are.

I didn't notice I had more responce to my initial question, I'm normally inform thru my emails but I didn't get anything!

Anyway... I've been trying to test Hoster on my Laptop and I just can't get to play a file that was imported using my desktop which has all the cdg tools.

I paste the songs that were in my Songlist directory (desktop)into the Songlist directory on my Laptop but everytime I try to play a song it tells me ERROR! What should I do? My Laptop has no cdg burner & all I want to do is cut & paste the songs I wish to sing into my Laptop Hard Drive.

Help please?

your songlist and the song (.kma file) have to be in the same directorys on the laptop as they are on the desktop (ie: drive c:\karaoke) the songlist only shows a path as to where to look for the file. the .kma is the actual song.

If my songs are in my D: drive on my desktop because it's format in FAT & that my Laptop is the C: drive in NTFS, does it mean I can't do anything?

no, put the .kma files in a directory on the c: drive and build a songs database from the directory. then you can add harddrive tracks to a new songlist to play.

But the songlist from the other computer will be looking for the files to play on the d drive that is why you cant use that songlist.

as far as the ntfs vs the fat32 it doesnt matter, it translates when it copies the files.

My question is not very smart! I will transfer my songs from the D drive to my C drive on my Desktop and will test it.
