StarMaker,

Currently limited to 16 color pallette. With photos, the best results I've been able to come with so far is to use a photo editor, resize, adjust brightness and contrast settings, and save in greyscale. Most don't look too bad, but not really ideal.
Hoping to see improvements as the new Kpro takes shape.

Maybe someone else has some suggestions that will help us both improve.

George,
This is limited to the Karaoke Format, thus the reason that we can only use 16 colors. Once we are able to change the format of the Karaoke to a new proprietary format, then we will beable to increase the color resolution of the graphics.

CDG Format is the limitation

The CD+Graphics specification forces us to use their 288x192 resolution with 16 colors maximum. However, some of the colors are assigned and cannot be used for graphic colors (i.e. Background, Border, etc).

Thus, your request for better graphics, and our requirement to comply to the CDG spec prevents us from creating a CDG format song with a higher resolution.

MTU is working on something for the future, but we are not ready to reveal this.

No great fix, but a suggestion

StarMaker
When I place a graphics in a CDG I ussually do a head shot of the artist that sang the song originaly. By having a tight head shot you can get a better looking picture that if you have a full body shot.
I try to work on the picture using either Adobe photoshop or PaintShop. I have an old copy of paintShop that works great. It lets me see the picture in 16 colors under a number of conditions of brightness and contrast as well as "Nearest color", "Ordered dither" or 3 types of "error diffusion" under the reduction method. It also helps if the background of the picture itself is one solid color, rather than a landscape or colorful setting. It seems that the higher the contrast the better that the picture will look with the 16 colors. The fact is that you have to play around with it to get a satisfactory shot. There are no easy rules.

Good luck
