1. I Wold Like To Know The Difference Between Build Data Base And Index Song File
Importing songs using the Build Database gives you less control over the naming of the files, it will name them exactly as the file name, this method has been improved with 5.08 as the "Define field order" button was added. Also once started it will index all songs that match the settings you selected so if there are more than 99 tracks it will automatically give it a BookId and Disc ID that may not be of your choice.
This dialog is also used for rebuilding databases that have already been indexed. Once imported you can only edit the through the Edit Dialog.

Using the index Hard Drive files dialog allows you to edit before importing and allows you to view up to 99 tracks per Book Id before actually importing.
I have a video on importing Hard Drive files Here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjf7fxEK5wk
Explaining some of the differences but the video was using 5.07 before the define field order was added to this dialog.

Once your songs are imported you can not change the Book Id, it is tied to that songs Disc Id.
If you want to change a Book ID of a disc that already imported you will need to either delete the whole of that disc first via the edit dialog then re import it giving it a different book Id before importing it.
If it is a Hard drive file again you would have to delete the individual file via the edit dialog then you should be able to reimport it using another Book Id but it can't be a Book Id that is already in use, so you can't tie it to a previosly imported book ID unless you re-import all the other tracks that were using that Book Id.

I'm not sure on this but I believe 99999 book root Id's each book root can contain up to 99 tracks so the highest book Id would be 9999999.
I dought you would run out of Id's

Re: Importing from hard drive

Thank You For Your Help

I Have Most Of My Files In Folders By Artist Name, Some Folders Only Have One Or Two Songs. Is There A Way To Put These Songs On The Same Book Id? Do All The Files On The Same Book Id Have To Be Located In The Same File On The Hard Drive? Can I Move The Files After Giving Them A Book Id?

What Are Kar Files And Does Hoster Suport?

There Is A Buton (merg Duplicates) Does Hoster Tell Me If I Have Duplicate File?

A Book root ID can only be tied to one folder, think of that folder as a disc. All the files in that folder can be allocated a single Book root Id providing there are not more than 99 tracks, the 100th track in that folder will be allocated the next free Book root ID.
If for example you imported a folder named "Sinatra, Frank" that contained 4 tracks with a Book Root ID of 201 which would give you Actual Book ID of 20101 to 20104. then you later add two more tracks to that folder Hoster will allocate the next free book Id to the new tracks, you can't select that first root book Id and just add 20105 to 20106 to the original.
This is something I have mentioned in the past to MTU that I would like to do myself.
One way around it is to delete the previous files in the folder via the edit dialog, so delete files 20101 to 20104, then re-import that same folder with all the 6 files in, selecting 201 as the book root id again as it will now allow you to choose that because you deleted it properly so you will then get 20101 to 20106.
Or instead of having a folders named by Artist, just have one folder for all downloaded tracks, you could then easily get 99 tracks per Book ID.

You can move a file after it has been imported but you would then have to use the Rebuild database button so that Hoster knows where the file now is.
If you imported using KMH types you must move the kmh file along with the original file as they must reside in the same folder.

Kar files are Midi files and can't be imported directly into Hoster, all the types supported are listed in the import dialogs.

If you use the rebuild Database button and Hoster finds any duplicated BookID or Disc Id it will inform you and give you a list of the files first.
It only lists duplicate DiscId & BookId's, not duplicated songs by artist or title.
