Help Getting bin files loaded on new computer

I downloaded most of my cdg's through microstudio years ago onto an external Maxtor One Touch HD. They are .bin files. Some are named with the disc number and track some with the Title and Artist and some with just the Title.

Since my "D" drive on my new computer was empty I transfered them from the external hd to "D". Now that they are on my new computer, I want to load them into Holster but I want to make sure I do it the correct way. I have read quite a few posts and different parts of the manual but I'm a little hesitant to take the plunge without hopefully getting some guidance.

Also I had these questions:

can I keep the final files (KMA or KMH if I read correctly) in "D:\MTU\KMA Files" since D has 389 GB free of 544 GB? (Hoster is loaded in "C")

can I load the individual tracks that didn't copy from the external hd from the original source cdg's?

what final files should I load on a new external hd for backup?

I've got copies of some of my cdg's on a terastation external storage service is there a way to import them without the individual cdg's in hand?

Sorry for all the questions. I've owned microstudio since 2003 or 2004 and I Bought the Hoster Suite in 2007. I now only have the new Hoster and the original installation download exe of microstudio (which is not installed yet) due to my old computer crashing

I have a new samsung laptop: Intel I7, 8gb, 64 bit with 1tb hard drive.
I have recently upgraded to Holster 5.06. I loaded the new version after I made the recommended changes for Windows 7.

Thanks in Advance for any and all help that may be offered.
Tim

First point if you want them searchable by Artist And Title then you would have to edit the files to show the artist name. If your not bothered about the Artist then they will import as unknown for that field.
You could import them in batches by the way you set the define fields order, example those with disc number and track first then those with Artist and Title lastly those with just Title.

I think you would have been better of leaving them on your external Maxtor One Touch. You could then import them from that into Hoster as kma files leaving the bin files intact as a backup. Alternately convert the bin files now on your new computer to MP3+G or zips which would save you a huge amount of hard drive space, then import them as kmh files,
A bin file is about 10 times the size of an MP3+G.

Also I had these questions:

Yes

Yes but I think it would be easier just copying a complete disc.

Either keep your original bin files or save copies of the kma files or the MP3+g files along with their kmh files

I'll have to pass on this one.

It may help you if you look at these videos on importing files.

Re: Help Getting bin files loaded on new computer

Thank You Roy!

So if I understand what I've been reading and what I've been told...
I need to import files and use build database (little confused about whether or when to use index). I need to use batch mode and user define the fields according to what is on the original file. After I import all the files, can I edit the fields to include whatever information I want so they will all show up the same ie...Title and Artist?

Is there any difference in quality between KMH and KMA?

The Terastation I refered to is an external HD that is attached to my home network. I guess my basic question is can cdg files be imported if they are on anything other than a disc? Not sure if this is a taboo subject or not...if so sorry.

Thanks
Tim

If you have version 5.06, from Import songs/Index HD Files dialog once you import them they will be indexed in the database. No need to rebuild the database that's only if you lose some data or something goes wrong.

Yes, The only field you won't be able to edit after it's imported is the Disc ID.

If you import the files as kma from any type the maximum ratio you can set them to is 192k. If you import them as mp3+g or zips as kmh they will remain at the quality of the originals. When you import kma types the little window for setting the ratio becomes active. With kmh files it uses the original file but just adds a small header file of the same name as the original file and has to remain in the same folder as the original. So if you converted your bin files to mp3+g you could use a ratio of 320k, they would then be a better quality than if you imported them as kma.

Not to my knowledge, they are actually cda files on a standard cdg+g disc, when you open the import cd tracks it will only search a cd drive and there is no selection choice for cda from the import hd files dialog.

You should have used a nickname multipoint lol

Thanks

Re: Help Getting bin files loaded on new computer

Thanks so much for all the help. I guess it's time to take the plunge. I feel ashamed for having the program so long and not using it but I only break out the karaoke for fun with friends and family.
Again Thanks Roy!
