Printing Hoster Manual 5.06

How does one print this manual? Have copied and pasted to word with various margins, but the material always extends beyone the paper. I had this problem with one of the old manuals and admin or someone gave instructions which I apparently did not keep.

Re: Printing Hoster Manual 5.06

I have never printed it myself, for one thing there are hyperlinks to everything in it, just clicking on a button in a picture takes you to instructions for that button. You can never find things as easy on a printed page.
Having said that I just tried it on about the first 6 pages and got it to print OK.
Click on the Hoster Manuel click on the printer friendly version highlighted to the right of whats new in 5.06. then from the internet explorer file menu choose page setup and if like mine you see "Enable Shrink to fit" tick box tick it, then just press print.

I printed it straight from internet explorer, didn't use word or any other software.

Re: Printing Hoster Manual 5.06

I can't print from IE as I have no printed loaded on my laptop. I was trying to copy and paste to word so I could move it to my pc with printer. I have done that before but it is not working, even with the 0.4 margins that were recommended in the manual. I'll keep trying. Thanks for responding.

Re: Printing Hoster Manual 5.06

I just tried this printing it on another computer and it works for me.
Open it from the Hoster Manuel Tab.
1. Select Printer friendly option.
2. Go to file Menu, select Save As.
3. in the dialog that opens, In the save as type select "Webpage complete *htm* html."
4. I saved it to a usb stick but you could save to the computer and copy & paste after wards. It saves as 1 folder and an .htm file. you need both.
5.Plug usb into other computer and find the file. In my case it was named "Hoster 5_06 User Manual.htm" double click it and it opens in internet explorer on the other computer.
6. from the file menu choose page setup and tick the box "Enable Shrink To fit" press OK
7. press print or print preview.

As an alternative you can open it in word by right clicking the file and selecting "Open With" then choose word but then you will get the margins problem.

Roy, we couldn't have done better ourselves! Great steps here.

Doransdome, the manual is in HTM/HTML and the formatting is controlled by the file "manual.css" (Cascade Style Sheet). I would never try to copy the "displayed" manual and paste it to Word. Do as Roy suggests, take the entire copied folder to your other computer, paste that folder and print from any Internet Browser (IE, Firefox, Google, Opera).

Having said that, Roy again has suggested you try and use the "electronic" manual. There are images at the start (called "Clickable Images" in the left navigation column at the top) you can click on any button, field, window, menu command, etc. and it will jump you to that topic.

Also, the MAIN operations, shown in the left nav column in bold black have steps to accomplish these operations. I'd read them first.

You should also go to http://www.mtu.com/upgrades/hoster.htm#Versions and find your 3.321 version (it's on an archive page). Read version 4.00 changes, especially those titled NEW to see what features have been added. Read UP the version list to 4.01, 4.02... 5.00, 5.01, etc. This is a bit tedious, but its the fastest way to see what we have done since 3.321a. I wouldn't worry too much about the CHANGED or FIXED items as they often are fixing bugs from prior versions, or changing how prior version features work. I want you to get an overview of what NEW features have been added and then move forward.

Lots of users never read the "What's new..." for the version they are installing, and then ask why can't I do "such and such" only to be told it was added in version ###, or just "a prior version".

Another way you can address learning to get started is ONLY find and read about the features you NOW USE. We try to keep the Playlist screen layout (except to add features) so it should be familiar to you.

An Important Note: In version 5.03 and higher we upgrade the songs.mdb database. Originally we expected users to max out at 30,000 songs. Then we added support for AUDIO and VIDEO, and some users' songs database grew to well over 30,000. "The Music Geek" reported it took 52 seconds to find what he wanted in his 100,000+ songs.

When you install 5.07, your songs.mdb database and singers.mdb database are rebuilt into the new indexed format. AN ARCHIVE COPY OF EACH IS MADE BEFORE CONVERTING should you ever NEED to return to 3.321. After converting and adding new songs and/or singers, you never want to open those databases in any version prior to 5.03 as they cannot fill in all the fields for each song record.

Enjoy! It's added flexibility may be confusing, but all you need to know is the same features you now use, then use more as you have time and desire.
