Problem with Songs.mdb

I just did a rebuild, then I did a shortcut of Songs.mdb to my desktop. I opened up Songs. mdb and nothing there!!! I then went to MTU and opened Hoster and ticked Songs.mdb and again... nothing there. Don't know what to do. The more they do to this software, the less I like it!!!!!!!

Thanks,
Ernie

Re: Problem with Songs.mdb

Are all your song files on an external drive or on the C drive ?

If they are on an external, was it plugged in when you first started 5.04 or when you rebuilt the database ?

If the external was not attached I should delete your songs.mdb plug the external in then restart Hoster, you should then see a dialog open informing you that it is rebuilding the database before this version opens the first time of using, after that it should operate as normal.

Re: Problem with Songs.mdb

Roy,
The songs are on an external drive. It's always been plugged in and still is. Whenever I would get enough new songs downloaded, I would then do a rebuild. I would then go to the desktop and blow away Songs.mdb. I would then open MTU/Hoster/Songs.mdb and make a shortcut to the desktop. It has always opened before. I'm not sure if I need to be doing something different in 5.04, because everything looks different.

Thanks,
Ernie

Re: Problem with Songs.mdb

Roy,
Forgot to say, it did download the database. I opened the external and all of the new songs were on it. It just didn't do anything to the Songs.mdb file.

Re: Problem with Songs.mdb

A bit confused why you need the shortcut on desk top but a few things to try.

Are you saying the Songs.mdb is empty ?

If not and you are just trying to add the new files then open the Tools/Build database dialog, in the bottom window where all your folders are showing, can you see the folders containing your files.?
If so highlight the folder containing your new files Also highlight the Karaoke type button at the top MP3G, WMAG or Zip unless they are KMA files in which case leave unhighlighted then press the Rescan Folder button, you should then see a dialog appear that when finished will inform you how many files were added.

Re: Problem with Songs.mdb

Roy,
My C:\mtu\Hoster\songs.mdb is EMPTY. Next to the icon it has songs.mdb, microsoft access application, 10,996 kb......NOW, I go to Tools,Songs Database. Underneath Add Folders I have L:\Songs (external hard drive with all kma files). On the left side of Rebuild Database I have C:\MTU\Hoster\Songs.mdb...... Now when I hit rebuild database, it goes through counting my database. When I'm done I then go back to C:\MTU\Hoster\Songs.mdb and it's still empty...... Any ideas?

Try this: Highlight each folder in the lower window individually, As you highlight one it should show all the files in the right hand pain that are in the highlighted folder.
Now if the files in a folder are .kma or kmh files just press the rescan button and you should see a dialog after scanning saying how many files were added.
If the files are mp3g, wmag or zip not previously indexed, then highlight the type button you are trying to import at the top karaoke types buttons then press the rescan button.

If the file says it has 10,996 kb then it is not empty. How are you trying to open the database file? Are you using Access to look at it?

Re: Problem with Songs.mdb

When you say restore back to normal, do you mean restored to before instaling 5.04 ?

Re: Problem with Songs.mdb

Roy,
I did a restore in windows and went back about a week. I'm still interested in going back to an earlier version. I don't need a lot of the things on the newer versions, and I don't need the update on the songs each month. Would you explain exactly how to do it?

Thanks,
Ernie

I don't know what changed for you either because I just opened mine and all my information is there. After you opened it did you open the table?

All you have to do to go back to 4.32 is download it from the support section, remove 5.04 through the install program "Remove", delete the songs.mdb and songs_backup.mdb files, then install 4.32 and rebuild the database. Of course be on line when you remove and install.

Re reading the above statement, one thing confuses me, that is where you say " On the left side of Rebuild Database I have C:\MTU\Hoster\Songs.mdb...... " Are you saying this C:\MTU\Hoster\Songs.mdb is showing in the list of folders in the rebuild database dialog
If so it should not appear in that list, I should select it then press the exclude folder button.
