Re: singer database

It is possible but will only work if all directories are identical with previous computer. For example, if you had all your previous songs in a particular folder on a Drive "E" then it must follow the same path on the new Computer, if the external drive is not named with the same volume letter it will not work. You can try it by copying the C/MTU/Hoster/ Songs.mbd from the old computer to the same directory on your new computer.
Now having told you this I still think it would be better to just use the Tools Tab/Songs Database/Build Database. I am presuming with these instructions that you are using version 5.01.
Press the Add Folder button and navigate to the drive and folder or folders containing your .Kma and .kmh files make sure you can see all the files your trying to import in the window and press select.
It will then build the database on your new computer exactly as it was on your old computer with each file you add.
If your songs were previously in various folders be sure to add all the folders.
Why I think this is better than copying your Songs.mbd is it builds all the other little text memory files into the system and prevent other problems that could appear later if you where adding extra songs or editing.

Re: singer database

For the singers database just go to the mtu folder on the old computer and copy the singers.mdb to the same folder on the new computer.

Since we use Songs Database BookID references in the Singers Database, as Roy pointed out, you MUST migrate your Songs Database to the new computer also.

BE CAREFUL!

If you are doing this for a backup system, it is legal.

If you do this to create 2 show machines:
1. If you buy a new set of discs or legal songs, you can use the second system at shows also.

2. If you do not buy discs for the second system, it is illegal to use it at the same time as your #1 system.

Re: singer database

Sorry. I just assumed it was for a backup machine. I run one machine and keep another as a backup and on occasion just copy the singers database to the backup machine so that they match. I thought that as long as the folder structure was the same that rebuilding the songs database would keep everything straight. Anyhoo, sorry if I caused any confusion.

Re: singer database

Let me introduce myself, I'm 72 years young, I've been using hoster since about 2001 or so, I'm not real computer savvy, In my efforts to set up a backup computer (dell 620 1.8 gz 4 gig ram) trying to copy the singers data base from my toshiba show computer to the dell, well I somehow lost everything(singers data base that is), I had paper list of a lot of our singers so I spent hours re-typing them, I still need to set up this back up computer singer database. I did'nt delete anything...heres what I did I have one of those gadgets (tornado) to copy from one computer to another, I've used it before without a problem...do you suppose that singers data is still there is there a way to look at it? any help would be appricated, if I have to do this manually, my backup will never be current...thanks Ken

First of I know nothing about (Tornado) so I can't tell you that way but it is as hwheeler43 replied.
To try and lay this out as simple as possible try this: Plug a usb stick or hard drive into the Toshiba computer. Now navigate through Widows to your Hoster Folder (Start/Computer/C/MTU/Hoster) and search for a file named "singers.mbd" right click the file and from the window that opens select "copy" now navigate through windows explorer to the hard drive or usb stick right click it then select paste.

Now plug the usb stick or hard drive into your dell computer. navigate again through Windows explorer to this drive and find the file that you pasted there, right click again select copy.
Then on the Dell computer find your Hoster folder again (Start/Computer/C/MTU/Hoster) Right click the Hoster folder and select paste. You will probably get a box pop up saying already exists, just select an option to copy the new file.

As I have said before, will only work if all files and folders follow identicle paths on each computer.

Roy ha laid this out very accurately. Your SONGS Database MUST FIRST be created IDENTICALLY - every song file in the identical drive/folder path on your backup system as on your show system.

The best way to do this is if you ALREADY HAVE ALL your songs on your show computer on an external hard drive. If you DO NOT, then it will be very difficult to create the identical folder/file structure on your backup computer. So...

QUESTION #1: Are all your songs on an external hard drive (YES or NO answer, no other text please)?

Once you answer this, we can move forward with specific instructions for you.

Your Singers Database is LINKED by "ID pointers" into songs in your Songs Database; i.e. ID linkage is the typical and safe way to tie two databases of records together. To COPY your Singers Database to your backup computer, your Songs Databases in the show and backup systems MUST BE IDENTICAL. If they are not, you can copy your Singer Database, but it will NOT work on your backup.

That's why we need QUESTION #1 above answered so we can guide you.

Again, we need QUESTION #1 answered YES or NO, then we can give you specific instructions, which is what you need. You need us to say you can or cannot copy your Singer Database to the backkup system and have it work.

Now waiting for your answer.....
