Do I really need to upgrade

I've been using Hoster for almost a year now. I am currently using 4.10. I have never updated because everything works perfect. I only use my laptop for my shows. I have not changed anything since the original set-up. I only have 3 days before my 12 months are up so if I need to upgrade I have to do it now. It seems like so many have had problems and I guess I believe if it's not broke why fix it.

Re: Do I really need to upgrade

The way I see it you will never know if you will have a problem until you try it.
Make sure you have your original installation file for your existing 4.10 version stored safe so if you have a problem with the latest version you can always reinstall that. Download and install the new version before your expiry date, if for some reason you are not happy with it just reinstall your old one. Once you have installed, it will be registered to your account so you will then always be able to go back to it after your present time expires even if you want to try it on another computer.

There has been very few problems with the latest version.

Re: Do I really need to upgrade

When I ordered Hoster I also ordered the cd. My concern is I have not done any microsoft updates. I will have to do all that and then If I go back I'm afraid it won't be the same. I hate computers...That's why when I got this one set up and it worked I never changed anything. It doesn't shut down on me or freeze up. Never a problem with any show(knock on wood). If I download the newest version and save it, do I have to use it? That way I would have it if I wanted to be brave. Sorry if this sounds stupid. The reason I have Hoster is because I had problems with my computer. When I updated to new software I figured I my as well update how I was doing my karaoke show. I never want to go thru that nightmare again.

Re: Do I really need to upgrade

Log into your account and read the instructions there.
I believe you can install any version up to current latest version at anytime because the install date of it is less than 12 months from your last purchase. If an update was available before your expiry date that particular upgrade will still be available to you. So I would just download it and keep it safe till you feel brave enough to try.

I think you would need to do all the latest updates because I believe among other things it needs the latest Version of Windows Media Player.

But again you should always be able to restore your computer to a previous date so just create a restore point before you start. Also don't do it if you have a show in the next couple of days.

Re: Do I really need to upgrade

Ok I down loaded 4.32 last night and just saved it. It was taking a long time for it to load. It got to 67% and just seemed to be stuck. I got out of it and hit download again and it started where it left off and finished the download and showed completed. I don't want to install it yet and today is the final day of my 12 months so I hope it's right.

Re: Do I really need to upgrade

To be able to use it you need to install it today. If you don't you will go over your year and will have to buy an upgrade to install it. It is not recorded until you actually install it.

Re: Do I really need to upgrade

Well I guess I'm staying with the 4.10 then. I just don't want to mess with what works. I don't want to do the upgrades on the computer to make the install work since I have a show tomorrow night. Thanks everybody for your advice. The main thing I wanted to know was as long as I'm happy with what I've got I can leave it that way and just keep on singin'!

Re: Do I really need to upgrade

The current version is VERY stable. You can see all the upgrades & bug fixes that were made between 4.10 & 4.32. There were approx 52 changes/adds/fixes made between the 2. The biggest bonus is the dead on lyric swipes without having to change the offset at all. But there were many things worth upgrading for. Here are all the changes

Roy, you have accurately described the exact way our "new upgrade" scripts work. You can install ANY version with an INSTALL DATE prior to your Upgrade Expired Date. So, you can install 4.32 any time in the future. It will NOT expire. You won't be able to install any releases in the future until you upgrade. I'd wait for 5.00 if I were you, or stay with 4.10 since its working for you.

Roy is right about creating a "Restore Point" before upgrading Windows or Hoster.

Sorry Dale, I guess I haven't kept you fully informed. It all works off the Install Date of a Release and the Customers Upgrade Expire Date.

If Version Install Date < Upgrade Expire Date, you can install that Version.

You can find your Upgrade Expire Date FOR EACH REGCODE in your MTU Account.

You can find the Version Install Dates for Hoster at: http://www.mtu.com/upgrades/hoster.htm#Versions

Re: Do I really need to upgrade

I saw you mentioned you have not gotten all the windows updates. This is VERY important. I have noticed hoster runs MUCH better when you stay up to date with windows updates.

Re: Do I really need to upgrade

Thanks again for all the feedback. I think I will wait for 5.0 at this point and then start updating everything. Thanks to MTU for giving such great instructions on how to do these updates. I read the new instructions that are available and it makes it sound alot easier than I thought.
