How To Correct 2nd monitor problems

OMG I can't believe that after all these months I've finally copied all of my music to the hoster program. Now comes another phase... learning to use the program. I finally got the 2nd screen working but I have NO COLOR on it. only black and white. I have gone to the tools, display etc and changed my color options but still nothing but black & white. Also, the colors on the little screen on my monitor are fine. Also the banner across the top shows on my monitor but not on the second screen. I really need to correct this as alot of my singers are older and of course their vision doesn't do well without drastic color change between the background screen and the words.

Any suggestions? Thanks for any help

Re: How To Correct 2nd monitor problems

A Few questions first.
What version of windows, XP, Vista, or 7 ?
What sort of connection are you using svideo, Hdmi, VGA or some other ?
Your version of Hoster ?

If you are using a SVideo there are 2 types of cable connectors 7 pin & 5 Pin, I think if you are using the wrong one can cause this problem.

How are you connecting between the computer and the second monitor? What types of cables?
Are you using any type of converter or amplifier between the computer and the monitor?

you also might have to change the second screens resolution.

Re: How To Correct 2nd monitor problems

Thanks Roy...
I am using Windows 7 on my HP Entertainment PC. For the video I am coming out of the VGA port to a converter box. Then out of the Yellow video out port to the yellow video out on my TV that we use for a monitor for the singers. It is an older TV set so it doesn't have an S Video port. My Hoster program I bought in January 2010. We tried hooking up the SVideo from the converter box to our big TV but it didn't make any difference... still black and white.

Re: How To Correct 2nd monitor problems

You may be encountering two different problems. As Roy said there are two types of Svideo cables and plugs. If you aren't using the correct cable for those then you will have color problems.
To check your show set up try using the vga to converter to yellow (RCA) out to the big TV. If it is still Black and White then the problem is not in the TV. If it is in color then the problem is the older TV you are using.
If you have a desktop computer at home borrow the monitor. Use the VGA cable you use for show setup and hook it up directly to the laptop. If this works and shows color, then you have eliminated the laptop and the VGA cable. For that point on it is either the converter or the RCA cable.

Re: How To Correct 2nd monitor problems

What brand of VGA converter do you have. Do You have another converter ( vga to rca ) that you can try? I had a bad unit from Radio Shack a few years back, and spent several fruitless hours trying to make it work... replaced it, and had no problems with the second unit. I have replaced some bad cables ( connectors were the problem ) and made resolution adjustments for older tv's to make similar problem that you're having go away.

Re: How To Correct 2nd monitor problems

Thanks to all you folks for your patience and suggestions. I truly appreciate all of you from the bottom of my heart. Even tho I did computer work for a living for years, this is such a new concept for me that I am a bit overwhelmed.

We did the hookup with the yellow cables to our big screen tv in the living room and got the black and white screen with that also, so I'm thinking that it might just be that dang converter box. I bought it online from Novapc. The other thing that happened when we hooked up the older small tv is that the picture rolled rapidly. Hubby adjusted the vertical hold and stopped it.... then when we hooked up the big tv the same rolling occurred. We didn't want to pull the tv out of its cubby to adjust it but I'm sure we could have stopped the rolling with adjustment. that also tells me that it is probably the coverter box !!!???#$@##$@.

Re: How To Correct 2nd monitor problems

The horizontal roll is usually a weak signal problem, I would think it is your converter box or the VGA lead from the computer to the box If you have a spare VGA lead try that first.

Roy.
