Unhappy Computer Crashed, cannot get into Hoster

Hi, Dont know if anyone can help me but I recently took my computer to a "computer" store to get it looked at, one morning I could only get to my main screen but not into anything, not even my hoster program, they had it for a week and finally said that the only way that they could fix it and this was only hopefully was to copy my files and delete everything from my computer, then put everything back on, I was informed that if I had put software on it myself I would have to contact the company to enable it again, I had some expensive language learning software and I was able to re activate it with help from the company, I have sent an email to MTU support , hopefully they can help, no reply yet. On my main screen I have two folders, one says 'hoster program' and the other just says 'mtu' , when I click on the Hoster program file it comes up with two more files one says 'key text doc.' when that is clicked on there is another window that shows a screen that says on top 'key-notepad' and under in the window shows 2 lines of O's and that is all. Then if I click on the other file which is labeled Hoster 402 setup, I get another window but is black and then disappears right away! Going back to my main screen and to the other file sitting there that says 'mtu' and click on that I once again get two more files, one says'Hoster' and the other 'kma files', the 'kma' file when clicked shows a list of boxes with my song numbers and when the other is clicked'hoster' I get a bunch of boxes each with different names on them - Announcement display, announcement edit, bucket mdb file, def.001.hst,def.002.hst and def.001-4 hst, there are others too but most of them I cannot open because it states that cannot open file needs to know what program created it. I had originally bought version 3.32 and then upgraded to and paid for version 4.02. I must note that I am not a professional karaoke dj, I do a few family parties but mostly use it at home, I have purchased so many extras and probably spent over $3,000, since my 2 sons who are Marines are no longer at home I have only been using it during their visits, my younger coming home from Korea in about a month, they love to use my equipment and I really enjoy joining in the karaoke fun with them, I just can't afford to purchase the software again and hoping that I get some needed help to set it up again, seems I have everything on my computer but then perhaps I am missing a certain file, the computer store cannot help as they know nothing about the Hoster program, can anyone else help? I miss seeing the little desktop shortcut with the picture of the juke box!! I am just miserable! wish I could understand the works of a computer more. I hope someone can understand my dilema

Did you just send an email or did you submit an email Support Ticket through the Support section on the MTU web site? If you didn't do the later then do so as this is the only way you can get through to them. After you have sent it you should get an automatic response saying they got it and your ticket number will be included in this email. If you haven't received this auto-response then make sure your email program and provider are not blocking them. Check your spam folder in your email program to see if it is there and mark it as not spam. Expect at least 3-5 working days before a human response.

Not sure what the first file is, but it is not necessary to keep. If needed then Hoster will re-install them in the correct place. The second file should have been your set-up file, but sounds like they didn't get it copied right or could not recover the whole thing. The way it is obviously isn't usable so delete the whole folder from your desktop.

This folder has all your support files for Hoster including all the songs you have imported. You need to move it from your desktop to the C: drive.

Since it appears you do not have your 4.02 setup file any more, then you will probably have to buy another upgrade as 4.02 is no longer available.
Before you install it two things will have to happen. MTU will need to reset your registration to allow you to install on this computer. And you will have to download and install from the Support Downloads for Hoster version the 3.321 version, so the upgrade will install. Then you can download and install the version 4.20.

Re: Computer Crashed, cannot get into Hoster

Hi Dale, thanks for responding! As I wrote in my thread I have contacted mtu and have a ticket number no reply yet so I will keep waiting , I had the impression though that they encourage people to use the forum for answers to problems thought that perhaps I could get an answer here. I am happy that you took the time to read and reply, Many Thanks

Re: Computer Crashed, cannot get into Hoster

Unfortunately, when you need registration reset, then there is nothing that can be done in here.
MTU will tell you the same thing I said as far as getting 4.02 back. This is why MTU and I both highly recommend you Save the download instead of using the Run and we also suggest you store this setup file in a safe location, like a CD.
I would also recommend you do all the recommendations for your operating system listed in the Support section before installing Hoster.
