Downgrading Hoster
Hi everyone. I had a "man's look" for a previous thread relating to this issue but couldn't find one so here goes.
My "show laptop" has 1 gb of ram and has been operating with little fuss even with Hoster 4.11. My back-up desktop has 3 gb of ram and operates flawlessly with the same package. Anyhoo, forgetting for a moment the ram question, I decided to download 4.20 on to my desktop having been suitably impressed with the new features. All good until I realised my laptops limitations ram-wise. I also purchased a second identical laptop at an "offer I couldn't refuse" which I intend to use as my back-up, yes, with identical ram capacity. Question one, can I downgrade Hoster (bearing in mind the ram issue) and secondly which version would be best for me using Windows 7? In your responses, please try and overlook my lack of foresight. ![]() |

Re: Downgrading Hoster
Let me put it this way. If 4.11 runs ok on the laptop, then so will 4.20. There were no additions to anything to do with playing that were added to 4.20. The only addition to 4.20 is in the way imports from the hard drive are done and getting the new format things to work with the search and edit so they could see the new stuff.

Re: Downgrading Hoster
Thank You. My concern was that the recommended ram parameters for Vista (and W7) are 2gb otherwise the program may not function properly. I'll give it a shot and see how it goes. My question re down-grading to an earlier version stands tho. Is it possible and where can I access such a downgrade

Re: Downgrading Hoster
All you have to do is run the setup file for any older version. You did save them when you downloaded didn't you?

Re: Downgrading Hoster
Have resolved the problem now, thanks to your input. I can only hope that I can acquire the same knowledge about Hoster as you obviously have.

Re: Downgrading Hoster
upgrading laptop ram is easy , i guessed the you have (2 )512g rams, you can just go to www.tigerdirect.com and buy (2) 1g ram, just make sure you buy the right one. laptops ram are usually located at the back of the laptop and the other 1 is under the keyboard, but you have to be careful removing the hinges cover for they break easy.

Re: Downgrading Hoster
It is not quite as simple as Billyo makes it out to be. You need to first make sure that your laptops will take the upgrade. Some are not made to be able to go up to that much. This is true specially for older laptops.
Second thing you need to know is exactly what type of memory module is required. There are many types by different pin configurations, speed and capacity of each chip in the module. Check the manufacturers web page for both items.

Re: Downgrading Hoster
One of my laptops now has 2gb and the other 2.5gb. Both going well. I now plan to upgrade both OP's to Win 7.

Re: Downgrading Hoster
Be sure you uninstall all MTU programs before upgrading.
