Windows 7

Since Hoster has such a hard time running Vista, has Hoster been tested with the beta Version of Windows 7 which is shipping in Oct. I am asking because I hate Vista and would like to pre-order Windows 7 as you can get it for 50% off right now.

I know that MTU has a beta version of Windows 7 and I feel certain that they are working with it. Vista was a nightmare! Admin or Dale will have to give you more inforamtion on this.

I went to the Microsoft web site and saw that the UPGRADES are 50% off, not the full versions. I lost the C:\ drive on a computer my wife aquired in her previous maraige but she does not have the XP operating system disc. We didn't use it so it's no big lose. I will put Windows 7 on it for testing purposes when it comes out. I'm going to wait and see if any of the other distibuters will offer the full version at a discount price.

Thanks for brining this to my attention!

Jim

From what I have been told is it runs on Windows 7 (beta) with no new problems. Actually you should say Hoster HAD problems with Vista which were eventually solved.

Noted. Looks like Windows 7 is a better version of Vista with some XP thrown in. At least that is the way I see it.

You can still get legal XP on EBay if you want it. Depending on how old that computer is Windows 7 may not work on it.

XXYZZ,

Why not allow MTU to be your beta tester in regards to MS Windows 7 ?
Admin will not steer you wrong... he has continually warned us about the problems that Hoster was having with Vista, when the majority of other programs didn't advise buyers as concisely about bugs, and inevitable problems, if they chose Vista OS. MTU has countless hours of programming time spent trying to get Vista to play nice with Hoster... setting back the New Feature development for Hoster because Microsoft put out a new OS that turned out to be bust in regards to programming software that could be used with the Vista OS, or as nicely as Admin could put it..." A Programmers Nightmare",... I'm sure some more colorful words were used behind closed doors!!! LOL

Be happy that the time and expense that MTU spent getting Hoster to work with Vista ( Not Vista working with Hoster ) has created a stable platform allowing Hoster KJ's that chose to buy the Vista OS/Computers to be supported, even though they strongly discouraged Vista usage, over XP, if at all possible...

They (MTU) will continue to be on the cutting edge of software development when it comes to customer support... as all of us have experienced! I for one, will be plodding along with XP and Hoster 4.xxx until Admin says that Windows 7 is a viable alternative...

Me & my clients/customers are very happy with the current show, and what Hoster 4.09d allows... can you imagine what the improvements that MTU has in the development stages will allow us KJ's to do...

It has an Intel 2.99 motherboard in it. What do you think Dale?

I haven't checked the sytem requirements for Windows 7 yet. If it won't handle it, I'll get a legal copy of XP.

Dale,
I checked out the system requirements for Widows 7 and my motherboad is fast enough. My concern is my older Nvidia dual video card which I know works in XP. I was thinking about getting Windows 7 to test with but I plan on making this computer a backup to my show machine when all is said in done so I'll probably pick up a full version of XP before they disappear.

Thanks

Jim

We just sent our our July Newsletter with the following guidelines on WIndows:

Which Windows Should You Run?

  • First, what you now have is what you will probably keep running. However, if you are or will be buying a NEW computer, read this carefully. Also, if you have Vista and continuously have problems, consider buying the "Vista Business with Downgrade to XP" and replacing your existing Vista with XP.

  • Windows XP IS the safest Windows today for Professional Karaoke shows! Our newest releases will continue to run on XP as long as Microsoft sells XP. We deal with all technical levels of users every week. They report XP gives fewer problems. If you are buying a new computer we STRONGLY RECOMMEND that you get it installed and running XP. MTU only ships our Ruggedized Laptops with XP.

  • Vista was a nightmare. Microsoft forcing Vista on the world threw us a curve ball that has cost us dearly in development time. We believe we are now functionally compliant (is there such a thing as fully compliant with Vista?). Vista problems are now few and far between. With the release of Windows 7, we expect Microsoft to reduce Vista support and even discontinue it earlier. It was a very bad decision for them to release it.

  • Windows 7 so far all MTU software products run fine on our Beta version. Windows 7 is expected to release on October 24, 2009. We will be ready. Keep in mind... the first release of any new Windows Operating System (or Apple either) ALWAYS has bugs. We don't like using a new OS until at least Service Release 1 (SR1). Please don't jump on Windows 7 unless you are prepared to find and live with bugs. That's a simple warning to everyone.

NEW OS = PROBLEMS BEFORE Service Release 1 (at a MINIMUM!!!!!).

MTU is now in a RAPID development mode. We are NOT interested in spending thousands of hours to diagnose how W7 is messing up. We simply AREN'T!!!!!!!!!!!! As long as XP is available, we have no intention of shifting our Ruggedized Laptops to W7.

FOR THE RECORD: All MTU software is running on Windows 7 Beta. However, we have not exhaustively tested. For example, Vista 64 totaly handles Optical drives differently than Vista 32. We had no reason to believe Microsoft would do such a stupid thing to ALL their software developer partners... BUT THEY DID!!! We haven't found anyone using Optical drives on Vista 64, and now that Windows 7 is coming, it will NEVER happen on Vista!!!!!!!!!

What is lurking in Widows 7 for us and YOU to discover? We don't plan to waste any more of our time for at least until W7 SR1 is out for several months to get the market feedback.

Can I make it any clearer........... DON'T UPGRADE your working XP to Windows 7.

If you buy a new computer, DEMAND.... DEMAND.... DEMAND it be delivered with XP installed and running. You will be MUCH HAPPIER with Hoster on a stable Windows platform.

If your computer vendor won't give you XP, which they CAN DO, then find another computer vendor. They are being inflexible.

Microsoft seems to have learned their lesson to NEVER AGAIN FORCE any OS on the market. They have announced XP will be available at least until 2011. Need I say more?
