Last time i added new songs to my machine then tried to copy them to my backup it got all messed up.

If I take just the new files to the back up machine what do i select when updating the database.

When you imported the new songs you probably used bookids that already existed on your other computer, which means you got "Duplicate Bookid" error messages.
Use the "Add" instead of "Rebuild" database. This will reassign those files to new BookIDs.

If you mean what I think you mean, you just want to copy your latest imported files to your backup folder. Try this: open the folder where your .kma are, on the top line of the folder where the headings are see if you have "date modified" listed. If so click this and it will put your files in order of date then you can select the new ones and copy them to your other drive. If you can't see "date modified" right click the titles bar and you should get a list of things to add to the bar.
Hope this helps.

If you don't keep track of what BookIDs you have used then if you re-use them it is going to cause problems like this.

The add fixes all the duplicate BookIDs. Delete the "BuildSongDBLog.txt" file in C:\MTU\Hoster and run the Add again. It should not show any again.
If it still does then delete your songs.mdb and songs_backup.mdb files in the same location and Rebuild the database.

Go through all the ones in the "BuildSongDBLog.txt" and reimport the individual songs listed as duplicates. That is what I had to do a while back when these problems happened. I don't know what caused it but I had about 15 that did this and I am very careful to have the full list in all of my systems so it doesn't happen because of me.
After you do that then delete the datbase files and rebuild. That should fix it.

Are your duplicates entire discs (meaning every song on the disc listed as a duplicate) or sporadic individual songs from many different discs?
If it is whole discs then you have genuine duplicates. In that case ignore the following instructions. But if they were whole discs then the Add should have cleared it up.
If this is what I think it is and you say they have been there a while then this will put those songs back in the correct location (bookid) and eliminate the duplicate change. It was a glitch sometime back (no cause ever found) that cause false duplicates. It happened once and I have never seen it since. I had from 10-15 of them. Re-imported back in their normal location and have not had any problem with them since.
Try it with a few, delete or rename the log file and rebuild again to see if those show-up again.

spread around

my dubs are all over different cds.. not sure hoe I got them. I dont mean to be stupid but what do i do. lets say my file says I have a dub at 123-01 do i take that track form the cd and reinmort it? Wont theat just make a different duplicate?

How do i get rid of the duplicates? how do i fix them? and then to get the sam tracks on the back up machine should i delete the hoster folder with all the back up file and book file and key file all those and just rebuild?

Reimport the individual songs. When you do this it will over-write the existing file which will remove the file that is a duplicate.
When you bring up the disc list in the Import CD screen it will list all the songs and show they have already been imported. This will also show the correct BookID for the disc.
Select the track that you need to re-import and do so.

am i missing something?

6915 Time For Me To Ride Keith, Toby
C:\Karaoke\Copy of 0003-15.kma

This is what it says on the list. I check Hoster and its the right song and plays the song listed.

What did I miss?

I looked at the cd and it is the right song. How is this a duplicate?
ugh.. Im confused

Rich

This is what concerns me "Copy of 0003-15.kma"!! Is there another file in the same folder that is just named "0003-15.kma"?? If so there is your duplicate.
If not and this is the only copy in the folder then it isn't actually a duplicate. Back when all the problems were going on with the disappearing song files in versions 3.318 and 3.319 I think this problem was occuring too but was overlooked. Whatever they changed to fix the missing files also fixed this to keep it from occuring again. However if it had already happened their fix did not fix the files themselves.
So if you do not have 2 copies of the KMA file(s) in the folder as I asked in first paragraph, then you need to re-import those files to correct the header so it is no longer recognized as a duplicate the next time you rebuild.

If you have 2 copies of the same KMA (0003-15.kma and Copy of 0003-15.kma) in the same folder, when the database is built it will see 2 files that have the same BookID in the Header of the file. The second copy is then seen as a duplicate. If those copies are also on the second computer then you will also have "duplicates" and need to delete them as well.
After you have deleted all the "copies" then rebuild your database to make sure no more show up.
