Capturing/converting videos

So how does everyone convert their videos. I have a set of laserdiscs that I want to drop down. Funny thing is I had made some test videos via Roxio DVD creator, using the built in capture card & creating an mpg file. This file at one time played on Hoster, now they do not. I just tried creating a new one today with the same results. The files are good & play on every player I put them on otherwise. The program only extracts to mpg files so I have no other option. I have tried converting those into other formats ie avi, wmv, etc. while these still work in all other players, will not play on Hoster.
So I guess I am looking for recommendations on proven methods (hardware/software) to capture outside video sources, save them to a file that will play properly in Hoster.

I see no reason why they won't play. I also have mpegs from converted laserdisks. Hoster has been playing them and wmv's fine for me for 2years, from 3.315 to 4.06, by "Adding" them to the Playlist. The InstaButtons also play wmv's. Hoster just won't "import" videos yet.

I captured my laserdisc via mini-dVC camera and import it to adobe premier software and produce avi file for each song. Since avi file is so big I then converted the file to a smaller mpeg via TMPGEnc plus 2.5 which produce a valid true VideoVCD standard for NTSC. (Mpeg-1 352x240 29.97 fps CBR 1150kbps Layer2 - 44100 Hz 224 kbps).
Make sure the ouput mpeg is VideoVCD standard or it wont play in hoster.

First, try to get TMPGEnc plus 2.5 and re-convert your mpeg to VideoCd standard. Let me know the result. I had about laserdisc converted like this and all works great.

Another way, see if you can burn you mpeg(laserdisc) as vcd standard in a disk then ripped it using isobuster which will give you a true mpeg standard for vcd.

If it won't let you burn these files to a vcd and says your does not conform for vcd standard then you hace to re-encode your files to conform
vcd standard

Lonnie the MTU logo thing that plays when you open Hoster is a wmv. Does it play when you open Hoster?

If so try and add it to your playlist and play it. It's at C:\Program Files\Micro Technology Unlimeted\Hoster\mtus.wmv.

If that works, just for fun try renaming one of your wmv's to mtus.wmv and replace the one in the folder with it and open Hoster to see if it pops up.

I have tried renaming & converting them to just about every file. Yes the MTU logo comes up fine. Like I said when I did it originally back in early 3.xx days, the files played fine, now they don't. The hardware/software combo apparntly is not compatible. Just need a proven method.
