Cool Duplicate Book ID's

I am running hoster 4.00 on 2 computers (one for show use..and one for backup). I have been using both comps. to laod my cdg's to save time. Now that I have murged the two databases on one machine for show use I am getting some duplicate book ID numbers. Please tell me there is an easy fix (even though I think I have tried everthing...database "add", and "rebuild" tools and no change). In trying to save time have I just created a mess!

Any help will be appreciated

Thanks,
MadMike

The "Add" should have given new bookids to the duplicates. When the rebuild and Add run do you get any error messages?
In the future if you are going to do this then I suggest you make sure you don't duplicate any BookIDs. The way we have done it is to predetermine and mark our CDs with the number we want for each.

Thanks for reply!

When I merged the two files I just did the drag and drop with windows (probably should have used hoster) boy that ol' hind sight is 20-20!!

Now that they are in the same file when hoster builds the song database with either add or rebuild is used it says I have 1,486 Duplicate book ID's.

When I let it murge them anyway the search song utility produces songs that are not what the search says they are.

Thanks,
MadMike

Delete your Songs.mdb and Songs_backup.mdb files in C:\MTU\Hoster.
Then rebuild. That should clear it up.

Thanks,

I tried that before and again just now with no luck... still the same. I guess I will just have to re-load all those discs if I can figure out what got filtered out.

In C:\MTU\Hoster you will find a duplicate IDs log file. That will show you what are the duplicates.

It's called BuildSongDBlog.txt . Take a song file and do a computer wide search for it (besure to tell the search to look everywhere including hidden and system folders). If you find it in more than one location you'll have your answer.

You didn't mention your OS but if it's Vista your computer probably made a copy of your files and put them in a "compatibility file". As I recall Vista had a habit of doing this with songs that were merged if you had them in an (what Vista considers) an unsafe place.

Duplicate Files

I don't know if this is what you are supposed to do but this seems to work for me! I have been using two computers to import songs using Hoster 4.0. After I import them on one machine
I go to the folder they are in and Highlight them Using right click and shift right click so all are Highlighted then I use either Move or Copy to a flash drive using windows XP Move/copy to feature.
I then Check to make sure they actually did go on the flash drive.
Then I move them into the folder that I want them in on the second computer ( Now using a 500 gig external HD) Using the same Move/Copy in My computer section.
I then check again to see if they actually went into the folder I wanted.
Next I open the tools database add to in Hoster. Click on the add folder select the one the songs are in and hit Add. This merges the songs into the database, and renumbers them, with next availiable number. I do get a message that says errors duplicates found with the option of opening the Database log. I don't pay much attention to it because it also tells me that x number new songs were added to the database which coresponds to the number of new files I added to folder. This appears to be working fine. My search will find the song ok and plays ok no duplicates with the same Book ID appear. The new merge feature is a life saver. I tried using 4.0 to import and then rebuild database in 3.108 and It just would not work the duplicate Book Id's did not showup in the database.
