Question Error 3315

When I rebuilt the database, I got the following message 8 times:

ERROR 3315: Field "Songs Mfg Name" cannot be zero-length

What does that mean? And how do I know which songs are being referred to so I can correct them?

Run through it again and note what record numbers it stops on. Then you will need to open the Songs.mdb in Access so you can find those records anf figure out which diskid and track they are so you can re-import them. The files are corrupt and that is why you got the error message.

Dale, when you get a chance, please read what I wrote under: "BuildSongDBlog.txt-Wrong"

When I rebuilt the database the second time (after removing all .mdb files) I did NOT get the same errors, plus it said I had 13 files less to start with. The first time it only gave me 8 of those 3315 errors (just in case that had something to do with it.) The numbers just don't jive.

I been getting this for over a year (3315)
there is nothing wrong with files, they play perfect.
when i remove those files, it just gives me that message with different files.
seems to be, if you have a lot of songs, hoster can't read them and gives that message.
so i just keep clicking no for help till it finish rebuilding.
same problem with microstudio???

Thanks. Well, that's one less thing to worry about then.

Bob I have only had it happen once but those files are not added to the database either. I had to find them and re-import them. I don't know if you can do it with KMA files but I went back to my original disks and did it. Mine happened after copying my files from one computer to another. I have not had it happen again and have since copied additional files without any problems.

It appears we may have a problem related to this 3315 error message. We thought it was fixed in 3.318, but maybe not.

We'll look at it tomorrow (Monday).

As I read it, Bob says the files he got the 3315 error on "are there" and "play fine".

Dale said "those files are not added to the database".

Admin - who is right?
And what exactly does Field "Songs Mfg Name" cannot be zero-length mean?

And why are the number of songs Hoster says I started with with be different on 2 different installs? Files don't just disappear

1. Uh... ok.

2. Uh... ok.

3. Beats me! Your system has nothing to do what their data... just my assessment of what I can see facts with at 12:31AM.

4. There is a field in every KMA file header named "Mfg name". It must have something in it, i.e. non-zero data.

Please attach one of your files that fails with this error. We need to analyze its KMA Header to insure what is causing this error.

5. "with with" is confusing. If there is a bug, don't ask why, ask can we find and fix it. Answering "whys" only complicates the matter, and do not solve the problem. You want to run Karaoke shows. We need facts (one of your bad files will suffice) so we can fix your problem. That's it.

If you can figure out exactly what one of the files is (DiskID-Track) then you can open it in Notepad (takes a little bit to open but it will). The top area is the Header and you will see that information is missing the Brand (Mfg Name) is missing and may be missing more than that. You can figure out which record if you have Access as stated in my post #2.
As Admin said there appears to be a bug that they thought they had fixed a while back and they will look at it, but that won't bring back those files for you. I don't know what Bob is doing to his files to fix it so they add in but I had to re-import mine.
When this happened mine did the same as yours. I had the same number of files in my folders on two computers yet my total songs on rebuild was off by 10.

Sky, please ignore our dearly respected Dale D. You do NOT need to see this file header, and... there could be characters that Notepad will not show, because it can not display them.

Please attach your file for us to evaluate with our Development tools. Thank you.

The only way I can add the file (so you can see it) is if I re-build, again! As I said in a previous post, the first time I did a re-build after I upgraded to 4.03 the first time, I got the 3315 errors, as well as the dupIDs telling me to look at the "BuildSongsDBlog.txt". I did NOT get this message the second time I re-built. I really don't want to do it a third time, just to figure out what 3315 means on only 8 files.

Would still like a response to my Thread "BuildSongsDBlog.txt-Wrong". I am trying to understand how things work, so maybe I can figure out some of this myself without having to Post everytime I have a problem.

Hey Sky,
This is how I would do it.

Open your songs.mdb (C:\MTU\Hoster) file in Microsoft Acess and count down to file #2899. Take the DiscID and follow it with the track number, (put a "0" in front of single numbers ) and you will have the name of the KMA file. (BookID ASKD4+Track 01=ASKD401 my first song )

Will any other program read this file?
Microsoft Office & Access are both expensive programs that I never had a need for before, so I did not purchase them. What comes free with new computers is generally only good for 90 days.

I guess this would be the poor man"s (or woman's) way to do it.

Go to Start> My Computer> "Folder where your KMA flies are located" and count down the list of files till you get to file #2899.

Now that you know which file it is, try to run in Hoster. If it plays okay, you got the wrong file. If it makes Hoster do things against it's will, you found your bad file.

Once you find it, delete through the Edit Songs section and re-import it.

I'm not aware of a free program that will read the sonsgs.mdb. If you don't feel like counting, wait and see if anybody else know of one.

I'll have to find another way. My kma files are in several different folders within the Songs folder besides the Songs folder itself, so there is no way (I didn't even get a freebie on my new Vista laptop)
Microsoft says I can download a Trial Access. If it is full version, maybe I can use it. If I use Access, does it COUNT the files?

Yes, you'll figure it out. It's neat to see your whole database listed on one document. With a full version you can edit your songs.mdb and the changes will show up in Hoster after you save it and rebuild your database. This is what some folks do instead of using the Edit Songs area of Hoster.

But, will they be "numbered" and in the same order in which they were imported by Hoster, so I can find song entry #2899 ? That's the BIG question

If I read the Manual correctly, I understand it to say that if you "edit using Access", that when you Re-build, it will NOT save your changes (I believe I read that in 3.321; not sure about 4.03)

You might want to check that one out.
