Hoster 4

Hi here goes, I just this morning downloaded the new Hoster 4 replacing my older version. when I first opened it I noticed that I still had a small second window up singers widow I think, Im still learning then tried to remember how to close it, when I did this I couldnt do it and closed the hoster altogether closed computer and re started I am now getting the hoster screen and it is frozen with the second window still there but I did minimize it! I just cant go any further that the first screen, tells me that it is not responding ,Before I download the new version I was in the process of editing my songs in the song book, i have some song downlead too many times from different discs and was going thru and deleting some of them, I also just deleted one without vocals that I should not have, what do I do now????? help.... Oh I did make a copy of the new version on a disc before I actually downloaded it and I have also notice that I have three hoster names in the computer two of them say something like hoster boot scootin boogy, the other is as it should be, so if I could get back into the files could I delete those two and keep the correct one. Sorry I am blabbering on but I have spent so much time on this that I just cant loose everthing now. Many thanks for any help....

We need some more information first before most of your questions can be answered.
What operating system? (Vista or XP)
What version of Hoster did you upgrade from?
Is your computer up-to-date with all the Microsoft "Custom" Updates?
Do you have Internet Explorer 6 or 7?
What version of Windows Media Player is installed?

1. The small window is it preview window (normally upper left corner)? If it is go to Tools/Show Display and click on the Preview button. On the preview page is a check box to Undock and Resize Display. Make sure it is unchecked.
If it isn't then the Autostart is probably checked. In this case go to Tools/Options and uncheck the Automatic Start.
One of these should get rid of the extra window.

2.The song you deleted will have to be re-imported from the disc. Once you have deleted it and confirmed that you want to, then it is gone.

3. Not sure how to answer the last thing since there really isn't enough facts. What do you mean by 3 Hosters? Are you talking about Files or Folders? Where are they located (path on drive)?

Hoster 4

Hi Thanks for answering ok here goes. After sending the email I kept trying to get rid of the window and yes you are right I had to uncheck the autostart, so I finally got rid of it. I have windows XP and the media center is 5.1.2715.3011, then it says update rollup 2. I do get automatic updates. I cant find what internet explorer I have however it should automatically be updated says 2008 on the bottom of the page. I upgraded from 3.321 . What Else can I tell you oh yes! Once I finally got rid of the window I could use my Hoster 4 yet it seems very slow, I have to wait a moment or two for it to respond, I scanned my computer this afternoon, nothing was really found, I was hoping it would fix everything. I guess the only problem I have is that is seems to react slower than the other version . You asked about the other hoster files, when I click the HOster Icon the main page comes up, in the very top left of the screen it says def001.hst-Hoster, on the bottom of the screen on the left where the 'start' icon is I notice two boxes that both say def001.hst next to it, I just tried to go into tools and the hour glass just comes on and does nothing, so I arrowed down to the second place on bottom left, clicked on the 2nd box that says def.001hst. had to right click and a not responding box appeared and then of course I clicked on end to close it all, then it disappears off the screen along with the first box at the bottom of the screen that said also def.001hst -I couldnt even get into tools, I could earlier and was able to adjust some of the songs I needed to change and/or delete cos I had doubles ect. not now though! I think it was tools I had gone into this morning , found a window that displayed the hoster file as def001hst-Hoster that was where I also found two other files above it that said def.001.bootscootin boogie, in the past when I have clicked on the icon on the main page it comes up in the upper left corner as def.001 boot scootin boogie insteasd of def001.hst-Hoster, I think that I deleted on of them, but, I cant check at this time cos I cannot get into it! Thats about all I can tell you, I really appreciate your time in trying to help me.....many thanks

Automatic Updates will not work. This only downloads and installs updates that Microsoft deems as critical security updates. You need to look in your Start menu for Microsoft Update. This will take you to their Update web site. When it opens click on "Custom" button. This will list all the updates available for your computer. Some will require restarting your computer, so you won't be able to install all of the updates in one session. You will have to go back to the site several times to get them all.
Your Internet Explorer like many programs will tell you what version by clicking on Help and open About Internet Explorer.
The Windows Media Player is what is needed not the media center. You should be able to find it in the Start Menu or if you have the Quick Launch Toolbar it will be on it as well. Again open it and look in the Help menu for About Media Player to find the version.

This is where it gets a bit complicated. How much memory and what speed do you have. If you right click on "My Computer" icon and go to Properties, the first page of the window that opens will tell you this information. The other thing is how big is your hard drive and how much of it is used?
Scanning will only help if you have a virus or outside introduced problem. What you need to do is defragment your hard drive with Windows defrag utility.

I am still not understanding this. It sounds like you are getting multiple copies of Hoster being opened at once. You are going to need to go through the steps you are doing and write down exactly what you are doing step by step so you can post it here. Tell us exactly what you are clicking on, single or double click, what opens, etc.

No wonder your computer is slow. First thing is what you quoted as "system memory" is actually hard drive or storage space. To find out how much memory is in the computer, right click on the My Computer icon and go to properties (bottom of drop down list) and left click on it. The lest line of text on bottom right is first the processor speed and second number is the memory amount. This has to at least meet the minimum requirements.
To transfer your KMA files to an external drive. Open the external drive in Windows Explorer. Highlight the drive by left clicking (once) on the drive. Go to top and click on File/New/Folder and create a folder where you want to store your KMA files and name it. Then go to the C:\MTU\KMA Files folder on you C: drive, highlight the first file, hold down the shift, scroll the end of the list and click on the last file. Right click somewhere in the highlighted area and select "Copy." Then go back to the external drive, double click on the folder you created. When it opens right click somewhere in the empty right side and choose "Paste." Depending on how many files you have this can take a while up to several hours. When it has completed. Then go back to your C: drive to the folder you copied from re-highlight them again and press delete. Once they have all deleted then right click on your Recyle bin and empty it.
When that is done check your hard drive space again. If it hasn't gone above at least 25% free, post back here again and I will give you some pointers on other areas you can delete/clean out that will help.

I only see one problem. Hoster should not be installed on the external drive. This is asking for trouble. Hoster was designed to follow Microsofts guidelines which is to install all programs in the Program Files folder on the main drive. It will function much better from there than on the external. Keep your Set-up files (the ones you download from MTU) on the external but install it on the C:\ drive.
By moving you KMA files to the external you have freed up a lot of space on your main drive thus allowing Windows (and Hoster) to have the room required to run properly.

still having problems Hoster 4

Hi, I have been without dsl for almost 2 weeks, I am now back on line and just wanted to let you know that I am still having problems, took my lap top in to the shop and had them transfer the songs to my external drive, kept the hoster program on c drive, just cannot seem to get anything done right, When I try to edit songs, it takes for ever to get to that window then when I go to play the song to make sure it is the right one, it wont play now, that wasnt happening before, I have no idea what is going on... I believe I have adjusted all I should, have a birthday get together next weekend and looks like I wont be able to do my karaoke thing..... got any ideas? other than throwing this in the river....

Next time you open edit, there is a check box called Auto fill Titles & Artists from Songs and Import database. Uncheck it and see if it opens faster.
When you say they won't play are you talking about in the Edit or from the main Playlist?
Are you getting any error messages?
