DJ suggestions please

Hi fellow Hosters.

I have been using Hoster for about 2yrs now & am very happy with it.

I noticed that many of you use a DJ type program before, after & during your shows.

I have always just plugged an mp3 player straight into the mixer as I haven't really thought about any other way to do it.

Can anyone please advise what program they suggest would be good to use & how easy it is to switch between the two programs during a show.

I use SAM Party DJ. It does not conflict with Hoster. Try the demo.

i think 4.0 has all the goodies in it including a simple DJ program

just open both programs, and go back and forth as you like.

4.0 can play audio but does not have a DJ program. Not sure how you determined that but it isn't like there is a separate program. You can add the audio songs into your playlist and even import them permanently.

I have used Hoster to play DJ music for years, no problem. I keep a seperate Playlist with only DJ music, change back and forth as needed.

Not in 4.0, but I think it is listed for 4.1 or 4.2

To answer your other question. It is easy to switch between programs. Alt+tab works for switching program screens in every windows operating system. Try it. It works for everything.

I use Virtual DJ and it is very simple if you read the instructions Though it is quite expensive in comparison ($300 bucks). Most of the bigger DJ software names have trial versions of their software. Do a Google search for DJ software and test the software on your machine. And find one that you like that fits your needs and most importantly...will run smoothly on your machine along side Hoster.

I find that having a full on DJ program makes life easier on slow nights so I can still earn a paycheck and also when I get called to be a DJ.

If you intend to crossfade (dead air prevention) and use different inputs on your mixer and for KJ and DJ there will likely be some creativity needed in your sound set up and possibly different audio interfaces.

i used either my itunes, pcdj ,and the Hercules portable dj mixer controller ( virtual dj) works excellent..

I use OTSDJ for my dj/fill programs. It can be setup on a different sound card so can be put on a separate fader on your mixer as well. It does cost, but well worth it IMO - ESPECIALLY if you do ANY actual DJ work. They also have a demo you can download & use for 30 days.

I use PCDJFX never had a days problem with it and it works well with Hoster I use a Gigaport sound card got left and right decks and hoster all into one mixer works brilliantly

I use windows media player... and it works great!

I use iTunes, it's free simple to use and anytime I need a song I don't have I simple go download it from iTunes.

I also use Virtual DJ and it is the best at Auto Mixing audio and video files it comes with lots of effects, loops for both audio and video for DJing VJing.
My Break Tool @ My Hoster Karaoke shows.
I also use Hercules MK2 controller that match the functions of VDJ if you want hands on scratch add loops, effects, fades it’s a good addition for quick response (better then a mouse for DJing.

In My newest DJ system I have been using a MIDI Controller Audio Interface Behringer BCD 2000.

I tested several other controllers before I settled on the Behringer. For the cost it seemed the most solid piece of tech. The drivers were flaky at first and their DJ program is horrible. I have a preference for balanced connectors and cables so the RCA's were a bit of a let down for me. But if you take care when routing cables you should be fine.

It works very well with the upgraded drivers and Virtual DJ once I got the sound outputs figured out (it will freak if you don't).

Nicest thing about it is the analog-in connection on the left deck. Allows me to route the Hoster audio output from a normal sound card on a computer or laptop through the controller and be able to use the crossfader for both programs without intereference. I still output everything to a normal analog multichannel mixer and keep media player on my machines with a quick launch as well as a small MP3 player to connect as a hail mary.

I have learned recently that Virtual DJ is a CPU hog like many DJ programs. Make sure you have a reasonably powerful processor in your machine or it will lock up and maybe even shut down. An AMD Athlon XP 2.4GHz with 2 GB DDR Dual Channel 400MHz FrontSide Bus wasnt enough for one of my systems. Killed both Hoster and the DJ Program.

Mono, I use VDJ as well and could never get a way to control both sound outputs (Hoster and VDJ) properly through separate sliders. I would always get a crackling sound from one of the outputs.

ok why oes no one use Winamp... it sems to pull less resources than Mp3 Tunes and has built in crossaders and an easy search window.. It also has a karaoke plug in if you run your stuff with Mp3+g .. I dont want to spend a fortune or anymoney on a player to just pla music whn slow or 2 request. I have almost 10000 mp3s and hoster does not allow a good search for mp3s...YET

I tested Winamp when I was starting to use computer based stuff years ago. At the time it was kind of flaky and screwed up on me enough times to make me not want to use it. I just never looked at it again.
