s-video vs. vga

well, i've come to another area where my experience so far is inadequate.

one of my customers is about to change over to computerized karaoke with hoster, and the distance between the kj stand and the singer's area is much more substantial than is the case in most venues. i believe the cable run is between 100' and 125', or thereabouts.

i seem to recall reading at some point that s-video is only good up to something like 25', so my recommendation to her so far is to use vga cable and an inexpensive computer monitor. i'd be more than happy to hear about how you folks have dealt with the issue when you've run into it.

thanks,

shaun

I think for that kind of distance I would use an RF modulater and run coax to a TV rather than a computer monitor. I don't believe VGA would fair any better than the S-video.
The modulater will boost the signal some and coax would be a better contained thus stronger signal.

If it's a single TV I'd be tempted to try useing a signal amplifier and RCA cable, just because it's pliable and easy to work with.
Otherwise I'd go with good quality coax and an RF modulator and signal amplifier(if the modulator by itself amplifies the signal it is goint to be very minimal). I think RG59 is home use stuff which I would avoid. RG6 is the stuff cable and satellite TV companies use, This would be a better choice. -IMHO-

I agree with Sam. With long distance, the RF modulator is the way to go. Even if you do get a signal, most often time, the Tv screen is black and white, or very week color, for lack of a strong signal. I often use an RF modulator at clubs that have cheap TV sets, or don't know how to properly adjust the color on their TV sets. Daryl.

Vga

I use a VGA splitter/amplifier and a 50' cable to my plasma tv and a 20' to a 19" LCD monitor from the laptop. Signal quality is fine. I tried the S-video route and the quality was not good.
