Question Importing tracks theory?

I recently puchased a Complete rack mount hoster system form MTU and I am haveing problems importing tracks from discs. I was was told by another longtime user that the media may be of a poor quality and the drive reading the disk may have a hard time gathering information. I was wondering if by placing a label on the top of the disk it may provide enough of a reflective surface or at least darkren the background enought that the pick-up laser can focus.

Any thoughts or sugestions about this would be helpful.

Many users over the years have reported that making a copy of bad master discs with Microstudio using good quality media such as MTU sells, can significantly speed up the disc importing into Hoster. It's worth a try...

dupe

yes this does work in most case's

if you have a cd that is real solw to import into hoster make a back up copy and it will copy as it should most of the time

when you try to read the cdg in hoster and it takes a long time just to get half way through take it out and make a back up use the back up to use in hoster

Mike, are you sure this works with Chartbuster, even? Most of my chartbuster essentials loaded slowly and have plenty of snowflakes on scree. I've tried the copy thing and the flakes still appear from the copies as well. May I be doing something different than you are?

Would really like to clean up all my chartbuster's someday, have over 200 cdg's of 'em.

Bryant,

I recently bought the chartbuster essentials 5.

I imported a few of them, and checked the tracks.

The tracks had white speckles in them.

I copied the same disks, and imported them, they were letter perfect.

No one can gaurantee that every disk will import better from a copy, but in the case of chartbuster, for the most part, it is so.

Oops, above post: I meant to also ask if you noticed any patterns in the specks? Was it on certain tracks or all tracks you checked?

And did you simply recopy the whole set after that before importing any more?

I have been extracting bin files from separate discs I have of other manufacturers, and reimporting those in place of the speckled tracks(so some of my chartbuster songs are really sound choice songs if you know what I mean) but of course I don't have a duplicate of every song.

on chartbuster I will make a copy of any new original I buy, and put the original up for safekeeping. The original chartbuster for whatever reason will have errors. copying software corrects this to the extent that it can.

in simple terms........yes

Post Thanks for the ideas.

You guessed it, most of the discs that we are trying to use seem to be chartbuster. I will have to making a copy and then try to import the copy.

Slowness of importing due to poor quality media, and snowflakes are two different problems.

Making a copy with quality MTU media will often solve the first problem, as indicated here. MTU has done extensive testing to insure our media is the best for CDG format discs. If you use "any old media", you may not get better results, and that has also been proven by users who tried both, ending up using MTU from then on.

In our testing for "snowflakes" on imported songs, we found each is a 2-byte or 3-byte error with Chartbuster. Our error detection/correction software is the best of all CDG import programs we tested, but it won't handle 2 and 3-byte errors. It finds and repairs 1-byte errors. Chartbuster is so bad that we believe they INTENTIONALLY insert these 2 and 3 byte errors. We have no other explanation how a "professionally" mastered CDG disc can end up with so many errors. Other Producers don't exhibit this.

So, in essence, these 2 and 3-byte errors still exist on back-up copies and will still show as many flakes upon reimporting the back-ups?
