Will this motherboard work?
Hello all,
15 years in the KJ biz using laser discs and hundreds of CD+G's, and now I'm ready to venture into the digital age. Ordering Hoster this week. I just purchased the following: Gigabyte Motherboard (http://www.giga-byte.com/MotherBoard...-8TRS350MT.htm) with built in Radeon 9100 video & sound, Pentium 4 3.0Ghz, 1 GB Ram, 2 x 120 GB Drives, WinXP Pro SP2. My question: Will this board work with the Built-In Video and Sound? Or will I need to purchase seperate cards? Should the WinXP O.S. be installed on a seperate drive from the DATA drives, or keep everything on one? |

Re: Will this motherboard work?
further reading of the specs says it's based on the Radeon 9200 GPU.
It also has a TV-Out function. Through TV-Out function, user can connect to TV directly with TV-Out cable. User can enjoy the larger vision from their television. It doesn't specifically say whether it supports Direct X 9.0.... |

Re: Will this motherboard work?
Beavis, THANKS for your response.
I am hoping to get a few more responses before I build this system and pay the $170 for Hoster. Any opinions on whether to install the WinXP system on a seperate drive or everything on one? |

Re: Will this motherboard work?
My suggestion is to have a small c: drive 30-40 gigs, and only have your OS, and programs installed on it. for a d: drive I have a 250 gig, and use Norton ghost to make a backup image of the c: drive on the d: drive. Depending on how much you have on the c: drive, I can back up my c: drive image to the D; Drive and only use abour 3 gigs of space on that drive.
The Notron Ghost was only bought as a precaution, as it saves reloading everything in case of a crash. I had a Raid system on the c: drive before this, and it kept crashing. after I switched to this I have never had to use the image file to rebuild. But if I do I have tried it, and it works beautifully. It only takes minutes to save you hours of reloading. I backup every 2 weeks, so if I have to reload, I want have to go too far back. Normally when you do have a crash, only the c: drive will crash. at least in 20+ years of working on computers this has been my experience I have 2 gigabyte mother boards, they work fine. but I dont care for the video, and audio integration. I would rather be able to replace them.

Re: Will this motherboard work?
A quick update:
Got the sytem built and purchased Hoster last nite. 120 GB C: drive and 160 GB Data Drive. A quick read of the manual and some searches of the forum to answer questions and I was up and running. So far imported 15 SGB disks, 450 more to go (aaargh). Played back a few and everything seems to be working great. A few corrections of song titile/artist needed to be changed but not many so far. Using 128K encoding. Is that sufficient? Thanks again for the assistance! ![]() |
