![]() Does anyone have any input on using Excel as the viewer for Hoster Songbooks? When I try, there are no columns. Is there an add-in for Excel, or is Excel compatable? Appreciate any help.

Re: Excel Songbook
i use to use excell for my song book. i used the custom assembly and typed all my stuff in.
i recently had to redo all my books and changed to using the book ID, i am so glad i switched. i would never go back to using the excell sheet. i agree the excell sheet had its Advantages but typing in one number is way better. and having the artists songs all together in alpha order is sweet. granted i had to go through all my songs and spell everything correctly (took one full day) but was well worth it. hope this helps ![]() |

Re: Excel Songbook
Thats because the songs database is in access. you need to use access to read it, or convert it into access (if your version is 2000 or xp). then you can export the table into excel.

Re: Excel Songbook
You can't use EXCEL as a direct viewer but you can use EXCEL by doing these steps.
Using Winword as your Viewer and Maintain Formatting: 1. Select WINWORD.EXE as your Viewer. 2. Click "Create SongBook" 3. Click "View the SongBook" 4. When Winword opens SongBook, click EDIT and then Click SELECT ALL 5. Click EDIT and then Click COPY 6. Open EXCEL 7. Right Click the TABLE A1 and Click PASTE. 8. Depending on the amount of Data to be Pasted, wait 1 - 2 minutes for the data to get pasted into the Excel Spreadsheet. Using WORDPAD as your Viewer and lose Formatting: 1. Select WORDPAD.EXE as your VIEWER. 2. Click "Create a SONGBOOK" 3. Click "View the Songbook" 4. When WORDPAD opens your Songbook, Click FILE and SAVE AS. 5. Near the Bottom, you will see TWO dialog Boxes...Click the DOWN ARROW that is located to the RIGHT of the Box labeled, "Save As Type:" 6. Select "Text Document." Notice that, in the FILE NAME Box, the SongBook.RTF has now become SongBook.TXT 7. Click the SAVE Button. 8. Click YES to lose all formatting. 9. Close WORDPAD and OPEN Excel. Excel should OPEN to a BLANK Spreadsheet. 10. Click DATA that is located on the Menu across the Top. 11. Click GET EXTERNAL DATA 12. Click IMPORT TEXT FILE 13. Navigate to Hoster's SongBook Folder and click on Songbook.Txt You should see the Text Import Wizard. 14. Click Next...Leave settings AS IS. 15. Click Next, again...Leave settings AS IS. 16. Click FINISH. 17. Click OK. Data is now in an EXCEL Spreadsheet. |

Re: Excel Songbook
I use Access to print my songbooks. I wrote some custom queries and reports, and used ODBC to connect to the SONGS.MDB file directly (or a copy of it), and I use an HP Photosmart p1100 printer with a duplexing option (prints on both sides of the page).
This works INCREDIBLY well. I print four books every time I have purchased a significant number of new songs, each with a section by ARTIST and SONG TITLE. I also print a section of ONLY vocal assist songs. I can print 3000 songs in about 30 pages, compared to 81 pages using the built-in book. |
