Cross Fade
I was wondering if the cross fade feature was totally abandoned. I really like using the Hoster playlist to play my Audio music, and now I have a songbook with just Audio music this is great.
To have crossfade would make this so much better. I was expecting it to be a part of 4.0 and lately I have heard nothing so please let me know if it's still in the works Thanks, Stu |

Re: Cross Fade
I am surprised there has not been an answer to this question, Most issues are addressed so quickly in this forum
We are already underway on 4.10 with crossfade, which is why we can't do 4.09, 4.10, 4.11... 4.12 (This was a statement made in June of 2009). Every upgrade since then including 4.10 and the future 4.20 to add the rest of the feature items asked for and granted have been and are still free upgrades. (This statement was also stated in 2009). I have since paid for additional upgrades (because of the 1 year thingy), on 2 of my 3 reg codes so they certainly are not FREE UPGRADES I don't mind paying the upgrade cost (I know there were many problems and MTU has to make there money) but I don't think there should be features promised when you're not sure you can deliver on them. The three major features that I was looking forward to when I Purchased the 4.x upgrade was Cross Fade (Not available), Fade out (Available but after I paid the additional upgrade fee) and Record Singers (Which appears may not be available at all). It is my fault that I paid for an upgrade on promises (live and learn) My question again is Cross Fade still in the works and will it be available before another year goes by (requiring yet another upgrade fee). The Cross Fade issue may be a thorn in your flesh and something you want to abandon, if so I apologize for bringing up a sore subject. Thanks, Stu |

Re: Cross Fade
Just my opinion, but with the BA you do have an automatic crossfade between the playlist and the BA. Yes the BA needs more work to make it function better within Hoster and be easier to use, but it does work for most people.

Re: Cross Fade
I think it works well to go between BA and playlist if you're cutting the BA song short, and that song is fading out beautifully but the playlist song is not really fading in (I think that is great for background audio and what it is designed for). But if you let the BA song play out and then hit play on your playlist you do not get a fade in or out.
I am using Hoster to play audio songs before and after my show now, it's not bad but noticeable that there is a pause of 1 to 7 seconds between songs, I use to use I Tunes which crossfades great. Hoster playlist is so much better to work with than playlists on ITunes. Crossfade would just make Hoster that much better at least in my opinion. I believe that it has to be a hassle for MTU to try to prioritize each feature. Background Audio is a great idea, but I started using it and it just confuses my singers and had to abandon it, (Hey that's not the song I wanted to sing!!!!). My point here is not all features are important to all KJ's. I hope Cross Fade is still in the works but I will survive if it is not. Thanks, Stu I Love Hoster. ![]() |

Re: Cross Fade
When I change the Fade In and Fade Out numbers in Audio Controls it doesn't change anything. I get the same exact results no matter what the number is. When I change Auto Play Delay that definitely makes a difference I have that set to 0.
Is there another setting somewhere to make the fade in fade out work, or am I just doing something wrong? Thanks, Stu |

Re: Cross Fade
I am not sure why it isn't working for you. The settings go from .5 seconds up to 5. The only thing I can think of would be that the songs you are testing have a large amount of silence at the end and beginning of them and so you don't hear the fade out or fade in.

Re: Cross Fade
I disagree that by setting the Fade In and Fade Out in the audio controls makes it work like a cross fade
Fade Out even states that it only works if the song terminates early and that is true and that works beautifully. BUT it does not Fade Out if you play the song to the end. I have Fade In set to 5.0 which I'm assuming is seconds, in other applications like ITUNES if the have your Fade In set to 5 seconds then when the current playing songs has 5 seconds remaining the next song starts to fade in, which I believe is how crossfade is supposed to work. But in Hoster the current playing song will count down to 0 not 5 before the next song plays and it is not fading in it's just playing from the beginning. If there is something I'm doing wrong I'd like to know what. If I'm correct and these audio controls do not work as a true crossfade will that be something that will be addressed Thanks, Stu |

Re: Cross Fade
Are you in Auto mode with 0 time set for the auto? That would be the only way you would get the feel of cross-fade.

Re: Cross Fade
One thing I have on mine which I did mention some time ago in the forum but I did not get much responce back from it.
With silence enabled both my XP and my Windows 7 laptops It only removes the silence at the beginning of my songs they all play to the natural end, the remove silence is set on the end of all songs but they all play to the end I also note that when my duration field reaches zero the sound stops but the counter carries on with negative numbers. This could be why on auto you are not noticing any fade out as indeed I don't. As you state, it does not do an overlapping cross fade as in a proper cross-fade one is fading in as the other is fading out but mine definitely fades in and out. If I play a song on the playlist, karaoke, video or mp3 it will fade in, If I then highlight the following song on the list, press play again before the previouse one ends, it will fade the one playing to silence then fade the next one in. If I press stop while one is playing it will fade out then stop. I doubt you would notice it unless you have remove silence mode selected. If it is not you will only notice the fade out if you stop a song. The fade in would not notice as there is generally too much silence in the intro screens. If you do have it selected make sure the little box to the right that reads "Add Silence When playing" that the amount set isn't longer than your fade in time. Check your Tools/ remove silence settings. I have mine set to: before 2 sec after 1 sec. and then my Tools/ Audio setting controls is set to fade in 3.0 sec out 1.5. Auto play delay 0. Roy. |

Re: Cross Fade
I don't know if the auto mode that ddouglas is talking about is the auto play delay if it is that is set to zero.
I set the audio controls and the remove silence settings like roy had suggested and the playing song still counts to zero before the next song plays but for some reason it seemed faster with not to much delay I'm going to play around with the remove silence feature a little bit more hopefully that may be the solution I'm looking for. It still is not a true crossfade but the less gap there is between audio songs in the playlist the better. thanks, Stu |

Re: Cross Fade
Sorry once again for double posting.
I'm wanting to use this feature for playing mp3 audio songs and not Karaoke songs before and after my shows. It just seems more professional to not have a lot of dead air between songs Thanks, Stu |

Re: Cross Fade
This will never be a true cross-fade. If you remove the silence at the beginning and end of all those songs then you should not have any dead air in between. The counter will always go down to zero on one song before the next starts playing.

my suggestion would be to create a playlist on your itunes and use it before and after your show, if you're talking about dead air between your singers try using the BA feature. i don't know how you do your show, but i don't play anymore tunes when i get done with my show, i'm busy trying to pack all my gears. ![]()

Re: Cross Fade
Thank you for all your help.
I haven't had the time to play around with the remove silence feature yet and I hope that works for me. I'm a little disappointed that we will never have a true cross fade but I can live without it. I don't like having other applications running while I have Hoster running, but if anyone can suggest a DJ software program (with crossfade) that's not as clunky as ITUNES I might give that a shot for playing regular MP3 Thanks again, Stu |
