No Video

I just got a Dell Inspiron 1545 and included a 256MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD4330 video card. With that I had to get a 15 pin to RCA adapter that included a red, white & yellow connection along with S-Video. I tested it today and found that everything works great except I GOT NO VIDEO! I'm using 4.11 and have all the latest updates. Any suggestions?

Just to make sure first did you activate the second display and set it as Extended in the Display tool in the Control Panel?
I don't think you can go directly from a VGA out to a TV-RCA input. It is the wrong type of signal. You are going to need a converter box in between to change the VGA signal to TV output.
I looked at the specs for the 1545s at Dell and all of them had an Intel Graphics card with no option for upgrading from it. I also checked for the outputs and it looks like the VGA output is all you have so as I said above you will need a converter box. A conversion cable like that isn't going to work according to some of the guys on the forum who use this kind of set up.
I just got a new Dell desktop (can't remember the model right now) and the ATI card in mine has DVI, VGA and HDMI outputs. So in my case I can use the HDMI out but will need a TV that uses it so none of the older tube TVs will work on it without some type of conversion box.

Dale,
By converter box, do you mean an RF Modulator? If thats the case, I am using one currently since the monitor I'm using is old.

Billyo is correct. You need a video converter with a VGA input and RCA output to go to the TV.

Just go to the site and do a search for Video converter or analog video converter and you will find them. They may not sell that particular model any more.

Monoprice.com is good for cables as well...

Dale,

Have you tried to run a combination of HDMI and RCA ( adapted from VGA ) from your unit? I can't seem to get both to work, just one or the other! Maybe there is not a way to multi-stream both formats...

I'm not Dale, but I don't believe you can run both formats at the same time. I also have tried.

billyo can you run two video outs at the same time with that unit? like the SVideo, and RCA video at the same time? Or does it have to be one or the other?

Thanks Billyo for your help. I'm going to order one right now. I'm running an S Video "Y" splitter right now. One side going to the 19" singers flat screen monitor {non computer monitor}, and the other side of the splitter going to my Monster RF modulator S video input. The monstor RF modulator will only output the old 75ohm coax RG6 cable, and does not have a RCA output. So if this unit will output both at the same time it would sure work dandy for me.

One more quick question billyo, is this unit powered by a wall wart, or USB powered? Thanks, george
