BMP image colors - Change if more than 10 colors

I just started playing with graphic images on the new version.

I saved an imported image that I got off the internet in two sets of colors,256 and 16.

Is there any way to manipulate what colors end up in the background of the picture? I got different color backgrounds for each saved version of the original image. One was a blue color, one was tan.

I can't see in the instructions if this aspect can be manipulated. Can it?
