Convert

This is concerning the conversion of mpg1/divx files I have made by capturing my laser discs to avi files that hoster can read and search and log in hoster songbook.

I have been a Hoster user since the first of the year and love it. I have converted most of my laser discs to mpg1 (vcd) and burnt them to vcd. I still had the files I made from the convertions (hundreds of hours and several years of video capturing, so of course I would save the files.).. I have now converted my video files to dvix (about half the hard drive space) and they play very well using hoster from external hard drive.

This is all great, but I read on hoster manual that I can add them to the database, thus to songbook, and search etc. if they are avi... does anyone know how to convert the mpg files to avi? I have tried several "free" programs but nothing seems to work very well with mpg1 files only mpg2 (dvd). I don't want to buy a program unless I know it is going to work for what I want. I did manage to convert one file with a program, and it worked, but it took way too much space on hard drive and this just shouldn't happen.. would really appreciate some help here. I have complete set of pioneer lasers, plus the country ones and the english set plus many other brands already converted to vcd (mpg).. I don't want to spend all that time capturing them again...

Hoster will eventually be able to add several types of video files, once they get the bugs out for playing them. I wouldn't do any more conversion at this time and give MTU a chance to get through current problems to work on adding them to database. As long as they play now in Hoster it won't be a problem to be able to add them to database.

NITA, as Dale said you really don't need to convert your mpeg files. Mpeg & wmv are pretty much the standard these days & MTU has already shown a list of all videos that will play/import. I know for a fact that mpeg's can be added to the Playlist and I'm sure they will also "import" once that feature is added to Hoster.
