storing kma files?

when you guys rip cdg's to kma's. Do you create unique folders (directory) to store different songs (manufacturer type) etc, or do you just dump everything into one folder??

I keep all of my kma's in one folder. Hoster does the rest.

If you put them in separate folders then ALL of those folders have to be listed in the Database Build window. The database does not look in subfolders for song files the way HD Import will. So your best bet is to keep the number of folders down to a minimum. Like Jim all my KMA files are in one folder because it is easier for me.

Dale is right, and saved himself a lot of time and no worries.

Unlike other programs where you must know where your files are, MTU's Hoster doesn't force you to do anything. By using a true database manager, you no longer need to "worry" about where files are. Select it once, and forget it. We have many customers who have no knowledge of files and folders... and can use Hoster without any problems.

guys, another question, when we edit a song in hoster, are we editing tag info within file, so that when i backup my HDD, that info is there if i need to do a DB rebuild. Or is the edited information only stored in the Database?

Edited information should be saved to the header in the KMA file as well as the database.

Since the Hide function is for the Songbook then there is no reason for it to be in the KMA file header. The Hide setting does not hide it from the Hoster but only in the Songbook. I don't know about you but I create and print all my books from one computer to use with all of my show machines.

True, but haven't you ever had to rebuild/merge the database on you backup machine? I try to keep both machines matching for backup. Sometimes I don't have the luxury of time at home to import CDs and do it at work. Then I copy the database back to the home machine. If I have imported CDs at both places, I merge and copy the files and database back to the show machine. In this case, all that tedious work will be lost.

I don't copy my database. I only copy the KMA files I have added, then rebuild or merge the database on my show machine to bring it up to date. My home computer is where I create and print my Song Books from, so if I add more CDs using my show machine I copy KMA files to the home computer and merge them into the existing database. Then any Hiding I have already done stays in the database.

So, just for clarification, the merge doesn't lose the hide in songbook but rebuild does?

If not I guess any new music I get will just have to wait till I can have enough home time to get them copied over.

Edit Songs "IS" editing the KMA header. Every change IS saved in that file's KMA header.

I found out days after this post that it was the problem files I had. They would not play in 4.xx. The were all tagged as CDCDG when I know they should have been hdzip. The zip file is my work around for normalize. I have not added a CDG without zipping since the normalize was removed.

I am confused. Are you saying you zip them after you have normalized them or are you saying by zipping them that it normalizes them?

There are plenty of programs out there to rip CDGs from Disks to MP3 + CDG into a zip file.(I have used most of them over the years) Then I run a 3rd party normalize program for volume control on the zip files.(I like MP3 gain) Then import the zips to Hoster. That is why I knew I shouldn't have any CDCDGs in the database because with the exception of a few MP3Gs the rest of my KMAs are derived from zip files. The errors I was getting were all from the incorrectly marked KMA files (There was a high %) When I noticed the CDCDG mis-mark problem, I deleted all of them. I then went back and reloaded from the zip files. After that, I went back to finding and marking dupes. I didn't see any hide in songbook check marks probably because they were skewed toward the CDCDG files. I later found some that were marked further down the list.

All that just to keep from turning a volume knob on the mixer
