Thanks for the good information.
I have not changed any of the update settings originally set my MTU. I have let automatic updates install according to those settings.
The discs are new and are readable by my desktop. I have also tried several discs including ones that I have already imported.
The Notebook (& drive) are new since August and have been kept in a clean environment. I am utterly baffled.
