I'd like to suggest that if you have MTU MicroStudio software you use that to scan those files your trying to merge first.
You will get a report if any errors are found with specific file names so you can remove or fix them.
Another thing you can do is test the files randomly to see if they play correctly.
At least the file question will be answered.
You did a fresh xp install but did you download and install the laptop drivrs from the manufacturer website if you didn't that may be the problem your having.
