My son at Dell just informed me there is no way to upgrade because video is soldered onto mother board....uh, uh uh...what a dilemma .....

Glen, I don't mean to contradict your son at Dell but the notebook you have, the Inspiron 6400 is the same model as the E1505. My wife has the E1505. They were manufactured with 2 different motherboardsas options. 1 has the soldered on graphics chip it is the Intel 950 graphics chipset. That is the one my wife has. The other motherboard has a replaceable graphics chip. That is the x1300 one. I was looking to upgrade her video when I found this out about a year ago. She was trying to edit the kid's videos and didn't have the horsepower to do it fast enough for her. Even after maxing out the memory.

Run Belarc Advisor to verify your video card. It is also a fun little utility just for the curious.

Bear in mind, this still may not fix the problem, but upgrading the video is still a WHOLE LOT cheaper than a new system.
