You said System Restore didn't help..... does that mean it didn't "restore" or it didn't solve your problem?
Did you Restore before or after you un-installed 4.04? If you did it
after, then some files would be missing for "System Restore" to work properly.
If 4.03 worked & 4.04 didn't. Re-installing 4.03 should do the trick. It is possible that defragging the system in between removal & re-install could help. The computer is probably confused
