The last time I did an update, there was some kind of security update from Windows I really didn't need, downloaded it anyway, from that point on I was getting the blue screen of death. I was very fortunate to locate someone else who had the same thing happen to him/her, and found that it was that that new file and a .dll file in another camera program that was installed years before that conflicted. You couldn't just delete the file either, a whole new patch had to be installed over the old camera program, and I was very lucky to locate that as well. I stayed up three days and three nights on that one, and took a day off from work to boot. So conflicts do happen and you may never know the cause unless you get lucky and spend a lot of time sometimes.
That being said, Hoster still requires certain features from the Windows updates to operate properly, so you gotta get 'em regardless.
