I know you upgraded your hard drive but that was not because of SP3 was it? I have never heard of any hard drive being destroyed by software.

Was this laptop originally XP and did you reload it from the mfg system restore disk? If so you need to read the following Microsoft Knowledgebase article and follow its instructions before you instal SP3. Article is located:

Hope this will help. Most of we beta testers had some problems with 4.0 before upgrading to SP3 and IE7, so I would seriously consider it a must for XP.
my laptop came with the original xp, yes i did use the sys. restore disc.
i had to replaced the cloned 250gb hhd, , and after i reload everything ,the cloned hhd that was in my laptop when it crashed and ( before i updated to sp3, )went from 250gb to 80gb ( after i updated to sp3 )for some reason.( 80gb was the original hhd size that came in with the laptop when i bought it) but with all the songs i had, i only had about 20gigs left..so i ended replacing the hhd with another 250gb and re-cloned .
