To work correctly without problems always install programs (all) on the C: drive. Leave your music files on the D: drive so you don't fill up the C: drive. Also I would look at what else you have on the C: drive to see if anything can be moved to the D: drive, such as Document files.
Really for XP to work without getting too slow your C:drive should be 35 - 50% free. This gives plenty of room for page swapping and defragmenting.
